DV: Johnson to play Fujita's spot...

listening to the press conference on 810. DV said DJ will play the left side LB spot which is where Fujita plays. Said we don't have a SLB and WLB position, but rather a Right and Left LB spot.

DJ is rated as a top coverage LB before his first pro game; Bell is a very good blitzer from the LB position; Surtain is a top cover corner. Maybe the plan is to put cover LB Johnson at left LB with left CB Warfield and blitzing LB Bell at right LB with top cover CB Surtain. Fujita has the physical ability and football smarts to be a good field general type MLB and combine well with playmakers Johnson and Bell, imo.

I don't remember if it was Vermiel or Peterson, but one of them said earlier in the week that during the last few games of last season, the light was finally coming on for Mitchell. Mitchell was a second round pick. It only makes sense to give him every chance to start if it's the best thing for the team.

Yep.

Once again Vermeil is all over being dumb. Like having Troy Vincent "compete" with William Bartee.

The only thing good that could come out of this is that Fox has somehow emerged as a starter, leaving us with a lineup of DJ, Bell, and Fox...

I'm not putting much stock in these comments. How the hell can Vermeil say where he's going to play when we haven't even got the guy in camp yet. Seems to me that stuff should develop once we get him on the practice field.

FWIW, I think our best3 LBs are Fujita, Bell, and probably DJ. I've seen nothing from Barber to make me want him in there.

Fox has all the intangiables, I just hope it translates to being productive. I like Fujita, but I'd rather see somebody beat him out and I'm hoping Fox or a rookie could man the position. Fox is basically an unknown at this point.

we have to just hope that Vermeil is being senile again

i would think our depth chart would be

derrick johnson ... Kendrell bell ... Scott Fujita
shawn Barber ..... Mike Maz ....... Keyaron Fox
kawika mitchell ... rich scanlon.... Fred Jones
Quinton Caver

i think mitchell needs to be moved outside

if johnson's weakness is engaging blockers and strength then you want him on backside working in space.

Maybe they're trying Mitchell or Fox on the weak side, I don't know. You certainly wouldn't put Bell there - rush end is usually strong side, so it sounds to me like he's locked into the middle.

I thought Vermeil mentioned yesterday that Johnson played that way because he was coached to play that way, and that he thinks he'd play fine on the tight end, but I was pretty out of it by the time they were doing press conferences.

yea.. vermeil said that

but why put him in a place that puts extra demands on his college weakness?

sounds like an unneccessary conversion AGAIN.

Barber is hurt ... why not put Johnson on the backside where he can run and flow to the ball, more like he did in college?

I think his inference was that it wasn't a weakness, it was just the way he was coached to play.

Either way, he's not going to be able to play that way at this level regardless of whether he's on the left or right.

good point, I must've been crazy to think that you couldn't find something to bitch about.

Complaining constantly is sooooooooooooo adult. Remember this when you are a bitter, lonely old man.

what does putting on a costume have to do with it, Laz? is it just a deflection to the fact that you already assuming the worst less than 24 hours after the pick? Or is that I have the courage to do something positive while you hide behind amessage board wallowing in your negativity?

no, this is about your neverending preaching and lecturing ... always trying to tell everyone else how they should feel and talk.

look around ........ people ARE happy, i AM happy

something you said would never happen

there was no board IMPLOSION

something you said would always happen

you just don't seem to be able to tell the difference between complaining and discussion.

we aren't complaining about the chiefs picking Derrick Johnson. We are "discussing" where we think he should play.

we are "discussing" football ...

btw why are you even on a football site?

It's pretty clear that your not into football ... your just into the arrowhead fan experience.

I never said the board would implode. I also never said people weren't happy with the pick, just that YOU assume that the Chiefs are trying to "convert' a player "AGAIN". I'm not telling you how to feel, you show how you feel just fine all by yourself. Quit being a victim of the Chiefs. The main difference between you and the coaches is that they don't get paid to sit around all day complaining about you.

Answer the question laz.. what does a costume have to do with this "discussion'?

I'm not into football? That's why I buy season tickets. You need to buy a dictionary.

Johnson excelled in pass coverage at Texas. Doesn't it make sense to line him up over the TE?

It was a great pick. Gunther will utilize him the proper way.

Hopefully the Chiefs can get another Jared Allen type defender on day 2.
