In a game that focused on the quarterbacks -- Williams because he was the first black to play the position in the Super Bowl, and Denver's John Elway because of his overall brilliance -- Williams staged one of pro football's greatest big-game performances. The ecstatic Cooke hailed Williams, extending heartfelt congratulations "not just to a black quarterback, but to a great quarterback."
Williams out-Elwayed Elway with his deep passes, and lobbed shorter ones with the precision of an artist. The crowd behind the Redskins bench roared for the first time since the kickoff when Williams hit Sanders on a fly pattern, an 80-yard message that Washington would be heard from.

PITTSBURGH -- Mike Tomlin, the defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings, was hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers -- the first black head coach in the team's 74-year history
He accepted the job Sunday night and the hiring was announced Monday, with the contract to be completed later in the day. He was negotiating a four-year contract expected to pay him about $2.5 million a year. The Steelers will hold a press conference at 3:30 p.m. ET Monday.

Croom is doing ok right now. He has struggled at times as Jackie Sherill left a god awful mess in Starkville for him. His win over Bama this year gave him breathing room for now. Kentucky's Offensive Coordinator in Joker Phillips most likely will be the next black head coach in the SEC when he takes over for Rich Brooks in a year or two.
