What advice would you give someone who is applying for supervisory position?

When he has no supervisory experience. I need some buzzwords to throw around. I'd really like to get this job and get some sup/management experience under my belt. It's within the agency i'm in now, so I know I will get an interview, I just need some "helpful hints".

TIA!

No but there is a ME

Wear your chestwaders and start shoveling it out. Interviewers dont know you from Adam. They may be looking for the best employee but often get the best BS'er which is usually the direct opposite of the best employee. If you get an experienced interviewer they know this and just be yourself, if you get an inexperienced one, break out the chestwaders and start shoveling.

Read the Six Sigma program guide aloud in your interview. All CEO's are referring to this piece of sh*t.

Read up on the company and see where their weak at and tell them that you can help make thier weakness into a strong point.

You aren't paying attention. Saul isn't asking everyone how to be a good manager. He is asking everyone for advice on how to do well in a management interview. For someone with no experience it's going to boil down to how well he can BS.

I hear what he is saying, I also heard what you are saying. I'm a manager, I have 12 engineers working for me. I wouldn't promote unless I saw some proof of the person trying to prepare for the position.

He said it's government, and he will get promoted for being a screw up. Not in my branch, you have to have the educational backing for promotion in the GS ratings.

Are you a WS or a GS? What level? What sub-level? What is your education level. What is your degree in if you are a graduate? Have you done any post-graduate work?

In my experience you have to have the education to be promoted. A close friend was promoted to GS14-1 when she finished her Bachelor of Science in computer science.

I didn't mention that she is not in a supervisory position, yet. No management training or correspondence courses.
