I read that going on a water-only fast for 1-2 days once a month really helps your metabolism. I'm thinking of trying it although I can't imagine how hungry I'll feel after day 2.

So many people think going two days of fasting is a big deal, Its really not bad. Just don't think about food, drink lots of water. I do it about every two months. Like Simplex said, you feel good about yourself when its done. |

Soy is a very incomplete protein. Soy DOES increase estrogen irregardless of what you may be reading. Every Naturopathic doctor I have ever known says it's horrible. The doctor that said it is one of the worst things you can put in your body was the doctor I listed earlier. I don't question his credentials and it's just confirmed what everyone else has said about the subject. Lastly I am not picking on soy beans. If you want to eat those fine. I am talking about soy products in general. Do I eat soy sauce? Yes. I am not hiding from it but I am certainly not looking to add it to my diet. Do what you want though and I will give you the information when I have time to find it. YOu may be able to do a search of Chiefsplanet and actually find it yourself saving me a lot of time. Let me know.

As for it producing estrogen, that's not strictly true. That depends on the person. Soy doesn't actually produce estrogen. It has genistein and daidzein which bind to estrogen receptors in the body. There are many plants, including flaxseed, that do much of the same thing. It's not necessarily a bad thing. It depends on the individual. Like I said, though, there are issues with soy, and it's best to approach its use with a bit of caution. The only thing I'm really taking exception with is "it's the worst thing on the planet." It's fine if you want to have a different opinion, but it's just that -- an opinion. The simple fact of the matter is that there are studies out there that can prove just about anything you want to prove on either side of just about any issue, whether it's pro-soy, anti-soy, or pro-soylent green. But you don't have to browbeat someone just because they have a differing opinion than yours. |

I've lost about 80 pounds since December 1 eating a balanced diet that includes soy protein. I don't eat a lot of it, but I'll have a nutrition bar or two every day and the ones I eat--which are the ones you can get easily at grocery stores and drug stores (e.g. Glucerna, South Beach Diet, MetRx, etc.)--tend to have soy protein in them.
Here's a link to the National Institutes of Health's MedlinePlus article on Soy: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/e...cle/007204.htm |

You should look into making your own protein bars. You can pack a lot more protein and a lot less fat and salt into them by making your own.
