Juice Fasting for 30 days?

Anyone ever try it? Four of my friends have done it and lost about 30lbs each. But for some reason I am not sold on it. Any help?

I read that going on a water-only fast for 1-2 days once a month really helps your metabolism. I'm thinking of trying it although I can't imagine how hungry I'll feel after day 2.

I don't know jack about rice milk. Actually I was going to look into that because I need to get lil momma to drink less milk but have not done enough due diligence in that area to post an informed opinion. My inclination would be just to look at the carbs as I imagine they would have to sweeten that stuff. I do all my drinks now with distilled water, fresh organic fruit and medium-chain triglycerides from coconut oil. I am using a little whey but not too much. The doctor I talked about earlier has me on collagen he makes himself that really seems to be helping my knees before the next two tournaments. I can't find what he makes anywhere.

How's the workout turned out for you?

I've done that. It's not nearly as bad as it sounds and I really felt pretty good afterwards.

So many people think going two days of fasting is a big deal, Its really not bad. Just don't think about food, drink lots of water.

I do it about every two months. Like Simplex said, you feel good about yourself when its done.

Then I'll give it a try. I've just got in to a routine now where I'm snacking too much. Maybe if I spend a day or two where I'm disciplined enough not too, It'll be easier to resist when I'm not fasting. I'm not that big of a guy (6'1", 205) but I'd like to drop 15 or so from the 'ol waist area. I run and do core excersises a plenty, but I haven't been able to make a dent. Time to limit intake a bit since my metabolism is clearly slowing down (I'm 35)

So, you can have the positives without the negatives such as weight gain.

I'm well-aware that there are negative side effects to soy protein. Some of them are taken care of in the isolate formation process. I don't recommend taking in a lot of soy protein for the exact reasons that you say it's bad. But it does have several health benefits. It's got lots of nice Omega-3s. But, like I said -- moderation is key. But to say that it's the worst thing in the world is absolutely crap, and I'm sure you were just exaggerating to make a point. Not sure why you have the crappy attitude about it, but whatever. I'm not taking it personally.

Oh noez!

Like I said -- you have no idea on the amount, so you can't make an accurate assessment. But just FYI, "lots" corresponds, in my case, to slightly less than 1 gram per pound of my bodyweight. Is that "lots" for a bodybuilder? No. Is it lots for a person that doesn't really do much exercise? Yes.
Dude I have to take off. I have posted lots of government testing before on Chiefsplanet but don't keep it handy. It does increase estrogen. Here's the problem your going to run into googling it or getting your information off of bodybuilding.com. Soy is the biggest money maker out there. It costs next to nothing to produce. Consiquently there is a ton of money behind creating disinformation on the subject. Until I look the shit back up again I will just leave you with this.

Soy is a very incomplete protein.
Soy DOES increase estrogen irregardless of what you may be reading.
Every Naturopathic doctor I have ever known says it's horrible.
The doctor that said it is one of the worst things you can put in your body was the doctor I listed earlier. I don't question his credentials and it's just confirmed what everyone else has said about the subject.

Lastly I am not picking on soy beans. If you want to eat those fine. I am talking about soy products in general. Do I eat soy sauce? Yes. I am not hiding from it but I am certainly not looking to add it to my diet. Do what you want though and I will give you the information when I have time to find it. YOu may be able to do a search of Chiefsplanet and actually find it yourself saving me a lot of time. Let me know.

Most of the bodybuilding websites I've seen shit on soy protein exactly like you are doing. I've yet to see one that actively promotes it. There are studies out there that are contrary to what you've been saying.

As for it producing estrogen, that's not strictly true. That depends on the person. Soy doesn't actually produce estrogen. It has genistein and daidzein which bind to estrogen receptors in the body. There are many plants, including flaxseed, that do much of the same thing. It's not necessarily a bad thing. It depends on the individual.

Like I said, though, there are issues with soy, and it's best to approach its use with a bit of caution. The only thing I'm really taking exception with is "it's the worst thing on the planet."

I think you're misunderstanding my original point. I'm not saying to use it as a base for anything. But IMO, there's nothing wrong with supplementing your diet with it. You obviously don't agree. That's fine. You don't have to use it. I don't use it often. The health benefits of soy are there. The negatives of overuse of soy are there, too, and that's why I think you have to be careful with it.

It's fine if you want to have a different opinion, but it's just that -- an opinion. The simple fact of the matter is that there are studies out there that can prove just about anything you want to prove on either side of just about any issue, whether it's pro-soy, anti-soy, or pro-soylent green. But you don't have to browbeat someone just because they have a differing opinion than yours.

I've lost about 80 pounds since December 1 eating a balanced diet that includes soy protein. I don't eat a lot of it, but I'll have a nutrition bar or two every day and the ones I eat--which are the ones you can get easily at grocery stores and drug stores (e.g. Glucerna, South Beach Diet, MetRx, etc.)--tend to have soy protein in them.

Here's a link to the National Institutes of Health's MedlinePlus article on Soy:

You should look into making your own protein bars. You can pack a lot more protein and a lot less fat and salt into them by making your own.

That'd probably be a pretty smart thing for me to do. I've been mostly concentrating on losing weight, but I should start paying attention to how much sodium I'm taking in. For example, I've noticed that Beef Jerky is a pretty good diet food from the standpoint of grams of proteins per calorie. But, on the other hand, it also has a lot of sodium. I should probably cut back on that stuff!
