How can BC get beat up this bad already?

Two practice games and he's getting burned at the stake? He has 6 starts and yes they were all loses but it's common knowledge that the whole offense was awful. He was not great last night but he's out of the game before he gets a chance to bounce back.

You gotta give a young QB at least a season for that matter most of them get 3 before they are dubbed to be terrible. BC has had only 6 actual starts.

Cut the kid a break.

But, how is it that Brodie did so bad? I didn't see any INTs in his stats, it sounds like instead of throwing downfield he was throwing underneath - taking what was given to him instead of forcing it. The only think I see in his stat line is he was just over 50% on passing. A few of those incompletes came because no one was able to get open and he threw the ball away to keep from doing something bad and a couple of others hit recievers in the hands but not caught. Personally, I'd rather he throw it away than to force the ball into double and triple coverage.

He did take the team downfield on a 10 play scoring drive to start the game. He didn't turn the ball over, he was something like 6 of 8 passing in the first quarter. I don't get it, what was so terrible about the way he played?
I guess about the fact that his 38 yards on 13 attempts is horrible,

I weigh more than that DE, but I'm not going to let him hit me if I can avoid him.
Guys like Johnny U and Sammy Baugh and Dutch Clark would take that shot, spit out a tooth, kick the DE in the nuts, and throw a touchdown, Mr. PastorMikH. Not like guys like Croyle who are too fancy dancy and throw the ball "away". Heck, sometimes Croyle even throws short passes when we could really use more yards. He's the biggest bust since Dolly Parton and talks like her, too.

So, you'd rather him hold the ball, take a sack and walk back to the line with 3rd and 18 rather than 3rd and 5?

I got the impression last year that Croyle was trying to do what the coaching staff was telling him to do, not what he wanted to do. They have emphasized they want him to throw the ball away rather than take a chance and lose. Can we really fault a guy that is doing what the coaching staff is asking him to do?

Also, how many "tough guy" QBs last a long time in the league nowadays? We finally get a guy to develop into a decent QB and he's through because of injuries.

Personally, I think he should throw the ball away, then walk back into the huddle and kick whatever blocker let the DE through in the same region as Unitus would kick the DE.

I completely agree. I'd rather lose a down than to lose yardage or have the ball possibly get intercepted. However, if he's not going to be able to take hits, maybe he needs to learn to be more mobile.

Sure. We work on his overthrows, and then what? We have to work on his incomplete passes. Then on third down conversions. Then his touchdown percentage. It goes on and on. That's what you get when you have to "develop" a young quarterback with no experience from a school like Alabama where they don't even speak English. We need a quarterback who can come in here and stop making excuses like "bad pass protection" and "no open receivers" and start throwing completions for touchdowns. He threw something like 13 times in that game. How many chances are we going to give the guy?

I remember how, for 2 years, how so many hated TrINT Green and kept yelling for a change. Then, when he went down in Cinncy, everyone thought we were done.

Trent had NFL experience and it took him 2-3 years to really come into his own. Even then, IMO, he was more of the game manager.

I could have sworn that I've seen Brodie get knocked around and even sacked a few times.

Working on overthrows will also help with the incomplete passes. More complete passes will lessen the need for third down conversions, and possibly increase the number of TD receptions. A little can go a long way is all I'm saying.

This is football. Leadership means taking it right in the chin and as many times as necessary to get the win. Croyle's lipsy dipsy "throw the ball away" technique isn't going to move the chains - it's just going to embarrass us fans because he isn't going to need a pain shot in the spine at halftime. Cry me a river.
