I'm not quite sure what you mean by "proper", but I do enjoy the hardcore.
Bad Brains, Minor Threat, NOFX, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Sick Of It All, Bad Religion, DRI, MDC, Snuff, Subhumans, The Clash, Butthole Surfers, Citizen Fish, DOA, Descendants, Gorilla Biscuits, Madball, Terror, Lard, Guttermouth, Rollins Band, Pulley, The Vandals, The Dickies I've been jamming a lot on more extreme stuff lately, like Meshuggah and Dillinger Escape Plan. Very aggressive, kinda technical, but not your typical metal dumbassery. |

I've been digging through some of my old CD's and ripping them for my IPOD. Just recently I dug out Iron Maiden's "Powerslave", been awhile since I heard it. I also pulled out Megadeth's "So Far, So Good... So What"
HC_Chief's just made me think of the Meshuggah I have, I need to get those ripped and jamming in my truck so these hicks out here in KS can give me funny looks. |

Anarchy Club - yeah, not great musicians/songwriters, but some of their stuff just sounds good - Enemy Ace....Behind The Mask....Collide
System of a Down - been really getting into them in the past 9 or 10 months (Hypnotize & Mesmerize). Yeah, I know those albums are 3 years old. So I am not a young hipster. Funny thing about my discovery of SOAD. I didn't know much about them and never gave them much thought until one day when my son found a cd (Hypnotize) on the sidewalk. It was scratched up but you could still play most of the songs. I quickly became addicted to that album. I ended up downloading the uncensored version of it and Mesmerize a couple months later. Some of my favs on these are Attack, Kill Rock N Roll, Holy Mountain, Vicinity Of Obscenity, B.Y.O.B., Cigaro, Violent Pornography, and if for nothing else but the title, This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song. I just downloaded Toxicity and Steal This Album last week. While not quite as good as the latest 2 albums, they do have some very cool songs. I love this band because they are so different than most metal or rock bands. Some of my favs are Toxicity, Aerials, Chic N Stu, Prison Song, & Chop Suey. The Decemberists - much more mellow and folk sounding stuff than what I usually get into, but it is progressive (which is right up my alley) and they are very solid musicians. I find them to be very addictive.

Couple more that I may have mentioned before in another one of these threads recently.
Andy McKee - dude is an incredible acoustic guitarist. He can do some amazing things on that guitar Flyleaf - nice hard rock/metal sound with a female vocalist that can really belt them out.
