Lions "might make a place" for Dorsey
http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf...ons_rooki.html
Phil: I've heard on more than one occasion that the Lions should swing a deal for DT Glenn Dorsey. I haven't heard much from him in Kansas City, what has he done? What could his trade value be and why would the Chiefs trade him since they spent a 2008 1st round pick on him? Tom Kowalski: Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham was on the Chiefs' staff when Kansas City drafted him and Cunningham really likes the kid. The reason he might be available is because the Chiefs drafted Dorsey as a 4-3 defensive tackle and they've now switched schemes and he's playing a 3-4 end. Neither the Chiefs nor Dorsey is apparently happy with the results and that's why I think the Lions might make a play for him in the off-season. I still think it's a longshot, but it's a shot worth taking. As for trade value, I'm not sure what he'd cost. I think you might see something a little creative, like swapping of picks in a round or two, as opposed to a straight-up one-for-one deal. We'll see if this heats up as we get closer to the draft. EDIT: I meant "might make a play" but don't know how to change the subject. |

A first-rounder with 2 years experience with Dorsey's upside (in the right defense, of course) should be worth significant compensation ... no question about it.
Although, through the years, Gunther's consistently demonstrated the amazing ability to convince GMs and HCs to acquire expensive talent for him ... maybe he can do the same in this case. FAX |

Shit...I don't know what combination of players (you can only do 3 for 1's) or picks the Chiefs could make that Madden would accept. Dorsey is a 78 on the updated rosters, Jackson is a 76...our fastest defensive player is Flowers (at like 85)...both of our safeties have under 80 speed...our linebackers are ballsack slow as well...our highest rated linebacker is Hali at like an 80 (most recent updates)... Our best player rating wise (other than Waters) is Jamaal Charles 86 (with amazing speed numbers)...and Dwayne Bowe (85)... So I'm thinking Charles/Flowers/#1 for Calvin and to be honest I bet the computer would even reject that... Even though Charles is probably the 3rd best back in the game to play with...speed kills in Madden this year and Chris Johnson and AP are unstoppable...and Charles is right behind. |

I wish Tampa was picking at 2, I would feel better about sending Dorsey there. I would hate to doom Dorsey to a career under Gunther.

Did i say "i think the lions would trade cj for dorsey" or did i say "straight up or a 1and 3?"
Just curious. Because everyone the thread suggests a "straight up" trade, calvin is the only player on the lions worth trading for, besides stafford, and not happening. You guys really do jump to conclusions.

personally I'd take a 2nd and 3rd for Dorsey...
People can talk about this guy and his superstar talent and everything... I just don't see it...and I don't think we'll ever see it in the 3-4 at least. If we can get a mid 1st...awesome. If we hold on to him and he does turn out to be a solid player...sweet. I'm pretty indifferent about the whole thing. |

Martin Mayhew's(Lions GM) intials may also be MM but he's not Matt Millen. Mayhew so far has shown he knows WTF he's doing. No way he trades anything for Dorsey when he can Suh or McCoy.

Totally. It's unrealistic. But Crennel is going to be running some 4-3 looks. Dorsey is still a very valuable commodity for us, and I wouldn't trade him for less than greatness.
