Chiefs Jamaal Charles now up to 6.4 YPC - Page 4

He brought his average up from 6.1 to 6.4 with today's performance, which is at the moment the highest average in NFL history for a season with more than 120 carries (as far as I can tell).

He has 203 carries for 1,303 yards (wow!), averaging 6.41 ypc.

Jim Brown's best season in 1963, which was the single-season rushing record for a decade, involved 291 carries for 1,863 yards, averaging 6.40 ypc. (Recall that this was a 14-game season.)

Beattie Feathers averaged more than 8 yards per carry as a rookie in 1934, but there's some debate about how many yards he actually had, and he had fewer than 120 carries.

So...three cheers for Jamaal Charles!

Charles "glides" when he runs. Very fluid - no wasted motion at all. He gets the most out of every stride. He was a football and a track star 2nd in college - not the other way around. He used what he learned running track to improve his football skills.
I saw him play a lot in HS - his running style has changed.

Bad news, people. Jamaal averaged only 5.9 ypc against the Titans, which brings his average for the season down to 6.39. Jim Brown is at 6.40. We're going to have to root hard for him to have a good game next week.
