Need a car, have a $5500 budget, suggestions?
Needing to get a second car. Have about $5500 in cash, and I don't want a payment since it will make the family budget tighter. Was thinking a truck or SUV, but it seems like they are out of my price range. Looking for something that will run well, be able to cart around a couple of kids if need be, and does not have rust. Craigslist so far seems to be full of rust buckets, scams and overpriced stuff from dealers. Any suggestions on what to look for in a reliable used car? Any good used car dealers in KC for that price range that anyone would like to recommend? Thanks!

Dug a little deeper on Craigslist, quit looking at trucks and suvs and found some Honda Accords that are between 2500-4000. Going to check them out this week. Seems like the majority of the scammer type ads are suv's and trucks (ads with super low prices and only email for contact). Found six or seven accords that have phone contacts in the area, so will see what happens. Thanks for the tips guys!

Where I'm at, Hondas and Toyotas (particularly Toyota pick ups) go for premium prices. Anything in the 2500 - 4000 range would be pretty clapped out. Hopefully, it is different in your area.

well then go get yourself a muscle car. You can find LS1 Camaro/Firebirds around that price if you look hard enough.

I KNOW you could find the LT1 versions for that price. Mustangs too. What about a Cadillac?

Same in my area, you aren't going to find a nice Honda Accord in a 2500-4000 dollar range. You are going to find a 10 car owner, has some kind of nightmare mechanical or electrical intermittent problem that someone else didn't want.

Meh, just did a quick search on CL and found a '00 Model Accord Sedan with Carfax and registered till march of next year for $4,850, only 120K on it.
