Clash of the Sitcoms: Round 1, Heat 1.

We have 124 nominees for favorite sitcom of all time. We will have 25 first-round battles, which are a five-way war.

I will present five TV shows, and you can vote for your favorite three. The top three votegetters will move on to the next round.

And without further ado, but with a pleasant and catchy introductory theme, I present to you the first five contestants.

Edit: you maroons missed some really good shows, so the number of nominees now tops 130 as I sifted through some "best of..." websites.

I'll make a bet with you that the winner is not one of those shows. I think Seinfeld and Married With Children are good bets, but I think Cheers will be duking it out with them, and there are some dark horses like Taxi, Barney Miller, and WKRP that could surprise people.

Touche. I'm somewhat young, I remember Taxi and Cheers but didnt get into them much.

It's Always Sunny and Curb ur Enthusiasm are clearly the two funniest Right Now, IMO. I do see quite a bit of Old TV Show threads and can't chat much in them because of my age. I figured these two would get the most votes from the younger audience, especially Curb - it's like Seinfeld on Steroids with lots of cussing and Sexual Innuendo.

The Office has to make it to the final heat. That show is ****ing hilarious. Same for Beavis & Butthead, Family Guy and The Simpsons are also very strong candidates if the younger crowd speaks up.

Oh, yeah. The Office has the double advantage of being both very good and also recent. I agree that it'll be in the finals.

I love the Simpsons too, but they've been around long enough that they've become kind of white noise to me, which is sad.

I really like Always Sunny, but wish they would tone down the yelling just slightly. Maybe from 11 to 10. I've never even seen Curb. For some reason I got it into my head that it was just Seinfeld with less interesting actors. That may not be fair, but it's my impression. Plus, I can't stand the opening song.

Okay, the first entries into Round 2 are Night Court, Big Bang Theory, and Martin. Poll closed.

One of the funniest series I've ever watched was called Coupling and was on BBCA. I only saw it after the fact when they were showing it in syndication.

If anyone is looking for something to Netflix look for it. Kind of like How I met your Mother but with Monty Python type humor.

it took me a little while to get the humor, it's a bit...uncomfortable at first. i didn't like the music at first either, now when i hear i laugh just thinking about what a complete jackass Larry is.

it may as well be called the George Castanza Show.

I literally cannot watch the show because of that. Charlie's voice is probably worse than nails on a chalkboard.

These were no classics. But out of these poor choices, Night Court wins.

I voted for BBT only. It's a very entertaining show with a fairly unique/fresh premise.

I enjoyed both Night Court and Rhoda, but not enough to vote for them.
