Fisher to sign $35M deal

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/S...ar-deal-011712

The St. Louis Rams are set to make Jeff Fisher the NFL's second-highest paid coach, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday.

Fisher, who chose the Rams over the Miami Dolphins Friday, will sign a five-year contract worth about $35 million before his formal introduction at a 2:00pm ET news conference Tuesday.

His yearly salary of about $7 million is second only to Bill Belichick's $7.5 million, and tied with the Redskins' Mike Shanahan.

The 53-year-old, who did not coach this season after 17 years with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans, will only be given the title of head coach.

However, he reportedly will be involved in the ongoing search for a general manager, and is expected to have significant input on personnel decisions.

According to the NFL Network, Gregg Williams will leave the Saints to become Fisher's defensive coordinator, while Brian Schottenheimer, formerly of the Jets, is the leading contender to become the Rams' offensive coordinator.

Williams' contract was up in New Orleans, and just last week he had referred to Fisher as his "best friend in coaching."

Fisher is also expected to interview former Raiders head coach Hue Jackson for the offensive coordinator job, according to ESPN.

Dumb! Why pay somebody so much, when they are the first person you get rid of when things start going downhill? In today's NFL, coaches are disposable! With the kind of management style that has become prominent, there is no reason to pay any coach this much! It's a waste of money!

Should be more wins in 2014.

That would give both coaches 1 full season with their teams.

it's about franchise structure, not the money.

I think alot of owners and GM like "safe" choices like Fisher because you know exactly what you are getting. 8-11 wins a year, win a playoff game or 2 in 5 years......keeps the butts in seats. This is why guys like Wade Phillips keep getting looks at HC. In their minds better to play it safe than a potential trainwreck.

What say those of you who were posting Fisher wouldn't get a HC job and/or wouldn't command a high-dollar salary?
