Eddie Vedder still butt-hurt over Seattle Supersonics

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdhlUyKe7Jo

The Oklahoma City Thunder is in its sixth season in the city, but Seattle resident and Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder still has some hurt in his heart toward losing his beloved Seattle Supersonics.

Performing at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte last Wednesday, Vedder had some choice words about the Supersonics moving to Oklahoma City in 2008. The Charlotte Observer’s review of Vedder’s performance said “Vedder’s patter was kept to a minimum, but left an impression.”

“He made light of the fact that Pearl Jam hadn’t been through Charlotte in 10 years: ‘To be honest, we might be a bit upset because you have a basketball team and we don’t.’”
Bitter much? The Lost Ogle obtained video of Vedder’s expletive-laden ramblings, complete with the grunge rock godfather replacing the word Thunder with a similar-sounding cuss word. Many times (WARNING: Inappropriate language).

Vedder’s Oklahoma connection runs deep, as the original name for Pearl Jam was “Mookie Blaylock.” Yes, Vedder first named the band after the former OU guard.

The best part about Vedder’s basketball-fueled rant? Pearl Jam is slated to perform in Oklahoma City at the Chesapeake Energy Arena Nov. 16. What are the odds Vedder sees his fair share of Thunder T-shirts as he looks out into the crowd?

It was hundreds of millions of dollars and EXACTLY what the league and ownership had asked for at the time. You tell me how you'll feel if here in 7 years the Hunts and the NFL says "Nope, Arrowhead is ****ed. The renovation was good for when it was done, but we're gonna have to tear it down and build another one, or the team is going to LA."

You live in the Seattle metro? Are you a sports die-hard? I'm guessing you we're born in the Chiefs kingdom?

I grew up in the Seattle metro. I was born in KC, but that is where I grew up from the age of 1. I'm not bitter toward you as fans. Your ownership group did what any ownership group would do, and while shady, they're the least of my worries. The whole problem was Howard Schultz, the Seattle City Counsel, and to a degree the family that owned the Sonics before Schultz. NONE of it had to do with the fanbase. And it's absolutely ****ed to blame the fans for one bit of it. Why can't you just be happy you got a team? Why slander a fanbase that bled when they lost their team? Seattle supported the ever loving shit out of the Sonics all the way up until it was obvious that Clay Bennett was taking them out of town. Even when they were losing.

Of all sporting teams the Sonics were my 2nd favorite team behind the Chiefs. The NBA died to me the day they left Seattle. Yes, I'm still ****ing bitter to this day over it and probably will always be! That said, I sure as **** don't blame the fanbase that just desperately wanted an NBA team, just as I'd expect them not to blame a fanbase that was crushed when theirs was stolen from them.

It depends on whether you're talking about someone who speaks English or Eddie Vedder.

I was born in Kansas and was relocated to Seattle as a kid. I had Sonics season tickets in the 90's. Very fun but disappointing team to watch. Sound familiar? I do not wish what Clay Bennett and David Stern did to the Sonics fan base on anyone. Until it happens to you, and again, it was the way it all went down, that was most painful, you can not understand the sorrow of having the history simply stolen from you.
