Let's examine this see we can get to the bottom of this perplexing mystery: He's a wealthy, attractive, musician with some major talent.
Yeah, I'm stumped as to why he gets all the ladies. |

Check out "Where The Light Is" DVD. Great set, in three parts; acoustic, then the Trio, then the full band. Excellent show.

Am I gonna have to be the first one to say it? Really?
**** this guy and his white VH1, Banana Republic, grocery store music. Here's something good you all can use as an antidote for the shitty white guy douchebag blues that's been posted in here so far. I'm really sorry if I offend anyone with these comments. Wait, no I'm not. **** you. |

And there is no reason to come into this thread and bash others tastes. It's art and it appeals and speaks differently to everyone. It it's not for you then no one gives a ****. Coming here like you did just makes you a great big asshole, which I am sure you are rather happy about. He definitely lacks the background and soul for true blues though. I agree with you. As a guitarist, he is top shelf. No doubt, regardless of your thoughts on his music. Besides, he's pulling the trim. Isn't that what this is about? Last edited by eDave; 11-08-2013 at 01:15 AM.. |

His revelation that he doesn't like brown sugar (aka chocolate cupcake) resulted in vast quantities of Oprah tears. As everyone knows, Oprah tears are the precursor to magic unicorns.

Beer can below the waistband
Seriously though, guitars subliminally tell chicks you have a huge unit [hand placement]. Saxophone tells chicks you have great chops, you know, for her.

Prince Jack Black Bret Hinds Dave Grohl and Dave Rawlings sprang immediately to mind. And at that there have to be some I'm missing.

Ranking guitarists by ability is an absolutely futile effort, particularly when comparing them across different genres. That being said, I'm assuming you were joking as only Dave Rawlings could really be considered exceptionally technically proficient of the names you listed. Now if you meant Jack White, then some people might be inclined to make that argument. I wouldn't, but some would. John Mayer certainly wouldn't make my, nor most reasonable people's, lists either. Now if one were to qualify it as say top 10 living popular blues-rock guitarists, then ok, that might be reasonable. I would still have a problem with it personally though, as nothing he does has ever pushed the genre forward and is so extremely derivative that he gets discounted out of the equation entirely by me.

And it was just the first five names I thought of. A clearer thinker might insert Slash over Grohl or Hinds, even though he has a low profile these days. But I'll hold firm on Prince, perhaps even over White and Rawlings. As a consumer, rather than creator, of rock guitar, the dude flat delivers. I don't care about wonkish discussions of technique or innovation.
