Alex Smith: Thank you, Kansas City

https://www.theplayerstribune.com/al...ins-thank-you/

Quote:
Going into this past season, I pretty much knew.

I mean, I had to know, right? With everything I’ve experienced so far in my career, I probably understand the “business” of football as well as anyone. And trading up to take a quarterback in the draft isn’t exactly a subtle move as to the future of a franchise. It was pretty obvious what that meant for me.

But I still had a job to do.

So I put the blinders on and locked in, because I couldn’t let whatever might happen to me distract from the team’s goal of winning the Super Bowl.

After that, I don’t think I thought about my future again until after the playoff loss to the Titans. I woke up that next morning disappointed that our season was over and that we fell short of our ultimate goal. But I also woke up with the uncertainty about what the future might hold for my family and me.
Quote:
I’m going to miss pulling into Arrowhead and snaking through the thousands of tailgaters that make up Chiefs Kingdom.

As a quarterback, you arrive to the stadium pretty early on game day. And when I’d get to Arrowhead, the parking lot would already be full. Honestly, if you show up to tailgate in Kansas City at 8:30 a.m., you’re already late to the party.

And I can tell you that after 13 seasons and playing in nearly every NFL stadium, not every city is like that.

Just seeing how dedicated Chiefs fans are, it always instilled a sense of pride in me to put on that jersey and go out and play for them. I don’t think that’s always the case in pro sports, and I never took that for granted during my five years in Kansas City. I’m going to miss that.
Quote:
Coach Reid called me during Super Bowl week and told me that the trade process had started. There were several teams interested and a lot of different scenarios, but everything pointed to Washington being the team.

And once everything had been agreed upon and the news became public, that’s when it really set in.

That’s when it became real.

Just joking around. It's not like he would have to skip any meals if he didn't find another 'job'. Dude is loaded, good on him.

Truthfully, I really like the guy. He was a good Chief and did a lot for the team when it was in a bad place. I wish him success and happiness going forward.

I am excited about the direction the Chiefs are going though.

We'll end up playing against the Skins in the Super Bowl and Alex will outperform Mahomes, because Chiefs.

what people dont understand is smith was actually tough but also had specific warts that involved in him losing trust. It's a remnant of his tumultuous early career. He definitely could carry the team and has many times. His warts were his shortcoming and ultimately the ceiling for himself and the team. But don't ever question his toughness.

He sounds like he would make a great veteran backup for Mahomes. Bring this guy in for a look.

I liked Alex on and off the field. Off the field he did meaningful work for the community and never wanted a spotlight on how he gave back.

As far as his play on the field, I say he had many factors against him that, if they were firing on all cylinders, he would have better game results. His stats were awesome.

I hope Washington gives him what Reid and Sutton didn't, "__________________________ " (fill in the blank) but I don't think Smith is washed up and furthermore feel we may see some of his best ball in the coming years. Mahomes ll vs Smith may be wishful thinking, both teams in playoffs opposing each other) but I hope it happens.

I wish Smith the best, he deserves some well earned respect.

I am very concerned about what Mahomes ll is walking into. I hope it's not a cluster****. Getting him the tools to do his job is still on the "to do" list. (see the insert from above) Seeing that Berry is able to come back after Achilles reconstruction to lead them is still yet to be seen. It will be anything but boring this year but if Mahomes ll has to deal with the same shit that Smith did, lets just say it will be interesting to watch.

A+ human being, but just not a good enough player between the white lines to win when it matters in today's NFL. Dude was born too late - would have been considered a great QB had he played in an earlier era. Depend on the running game and don't turn the ball over led to championships back in the 80's-90's.

He's perfect for the Redskins - he'll basically continue the averageness they've shown with Cousins.
