Why do you live where you live?

This is about your general community or area, not about your specific house. Think of it as the metro area you live in, or the county you live in.

Poll coming as soon as I file of change of address form for it.

For me, I live in Denver because I got a job here. I didn't know anyone here and had never seen the city. However, I had always thought it would be a good place to live. My wife and I were generally targeting the region of the US that was west of the Austin-Minneapolis line, and generally excluding the Pacific coast states (per my wife's preference on the latter). A job came through in Denver and we jumped on it. That was 25 years ago, so obviously it was a good outcome.

Ex-wife took a job here when we were still married. She’s gone and I’m still here. I like the milder winters.

After living my whole life in the midwest, decided it was finally time to make a lifestyle upgrade. Told my company I wanted to move to either San Diego or Denver, and SD was the first territory to open. Moved here about a year and a half ago, and wonder why I didn't do it years ago.

I'm in on the wtf why Dallas Ft Worth? I would certainly look at Austin if Texas was a draw for me.

Meh. Not this guy. I had an opportunity to live where I grew up and promptly and unequivocally declined.

The ground I’ve poured my life into is a little different but not materially. If someone offered to trade me equal acres of better (or closer) ground I’d have my shit out by morning.

In my eyes real estate is an asset to be managed for profit. Granted, I’m managing for profit in both the short and long term, so it gets treated differently than a paper clip or something, but if the opportunity comes to improve my position I will take it.

I visited Galveston a few years back, and it seemed like a pretty cool place, too.

Born and raised here. I love to travel, but this area is nice to call home. COL is low, it's big enough to have options on things to do, and it's within driving distance to multiple cities that have more things to do. There are pros and cons, of course, but I'm happy here.

Because then they’d have been farming here. And that ain’t cool. I wish my ancestors would have stayed in Iowa.

Grew up in a small town (population approx. 600) about 15 minutes away from where I live now. I will stay in this area until my parents and my wife's parents pass away. We stay in this area because we both have really great jobs and we are close enough to our parents that we can do things for them as they get older.

We will eventually move to Hawaii and live there for 4-6 months out of every year and the other part of the year we would like to live in either western Wyoming or Montana.

I was born here in Missouri, but lived most of my growing up years in a little town south of Dallas. The people were awesome, but damn, you better enjoy living in an oven. In Missouri, it gets hot for a few weeks a year, in Texas it gets cool for a few weeks a year.

To OP, was born here but like most, had to see what was on the other side of the hill. After stops in Texas, Illinois, and Minnesota, I marched my happy self right back here to Missouri. Cost of living is insanely cheap. (I have mentioned on here before what my house payment is, most of you couldn't believe it) and there is something to be said for knowing your neighbors. You could blindfold me, and drive around most of my county then stop in front of any random house, and the odds are better than 50/50 that I will know who lives there. The demographics are starting to change, so I don't know how much longer that will be true, but I'm loving it while it lasts

Yeah, I was never happy there. Go back at least once a year and things are basically the same. It's got its great qualities, just not for me.

I have lived in a few other places but I was born and raised here. I wasn't planning on staying though, but met a girl and got a good job so I decided to stick around for while then I wanted to be here to take care of my parents. Since they passed just recently I really have nothing keeping me here but my job. I really want to move to Colorado or Oregon.
