I think this is correct. We might have squeaked into a SB appearance, but at what price? Keeping Idiot Bob Sutton for another 3 years? Much better the way things turned out, IMO.

That thing you didn't recognize much was defense...

Naw. Many offensive plays were there had they been executed. I get your point about defense, but this was more a case where both offenses were flat rather than both defenses were dominant. Doesn't really matter - interest was way down, lowest ratings in over a decade, and it turned out to be a dud of a game.

Only in Patriot-land...do they get this call late in the fourth on a 3rd and 8. If it's called honestly...Chiefs most likely are SB champs today.

The purple arrow shows where his left, red glove is...the ball is on his forearm. His right red glove is clearly not under the ball...it's off to the side.

He flips over and has to re-grasp the ball after it hits the ground....so much for maintaining possession. Swap the color of the jersey and that's ruled incomplete.

Just like the Jaguars AFCCG...Pats got every 4th quarter break...including a fake roughing call.

First, it's Hogan not Edelman.

Second, watching the replay, it's not remotely clear that the ball touches the ground there at all. It's fine for his forearm to be what keeps the ball off the ground. Doesn't have to be the hand.

Third, refs missed a key, blatant, OPI on this Chiefs pick play. Pause it at 2-3 seconds and you'll see the pick three yards downfield while the ball is still in Mahomes hand.

Fourth, Chiefs fans: Let 'em play!
Also Chiefs fans: waaah, we didn't get a ridiculously close call overturned.

I re-watched that replay a dozen times.
There was no evidence to overturn the call.
It was a catch.

Nope...that was NOT a catch. Look at the placement of his hands, neither is underneath it. His right hand is holding it against his left forearm from the side and the ground allows him to fall on it.....it clearly moves when it hits the ground....when he flips over he has to re-grasp the ball.

You cant lose control of the ball at any point if the ground is involved....and he did.

I wont even get started about the call against the Steelers with Jesse James...your team is given every critical call... being upheld or overturn. Patriots have been to at least 3 Superbowls due to the one-sided officiating at pivotal moments.

This was my immediate take after the loss as well. Every bit of time matters and winning that game would have cost us valuable time, it would have cost us an opportunity at true, sustained greatness.

Now we are in the best possible position to succeed. The way things are being run in the front office and on the field look much better to me than where we were this time last year.
It was a necessary loss.

I don't know about that. The Donx wisely shitcanned Robinson after winning a Super Bowl. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize how ineffective Sutton was.

Christ, the Chiefs might well have gone undefeated if they'd merely had a bad defense. Unfortunately, they were several levels below merely bad.

And then you contemplate the decades of misplaced loyalty and come to the conclusion that risking it is not worth it.

We'll never know. Although I suspect that had we actually won the Super Bowl, Sutton would have retired. It probably wouldn't have been voluntary, but would have been made to look that way.
