Proctor's Plea

Posted at Crapa err Nepa:

My Fellow Chiefs Fans:

I felt the need to weigh in on the state of Chiefs Fan Relations in cyberspace and am submitting this essay for your consideration.

Cyberspace has created a unique opportunity for us Chiefs fanatics to maintain community in ways that non-KC-area fans could not before the word wide web. As with other modes of communication, cyberspace is in the public domain and deserves the highest consideration of the obligation of citizenship. This expression of our freedom as with all others is dependent upon the goodwill and mutual respect of the citizens who participate and unfortunately can be abused by the unneighborly and the irresponsible.

Our passion for all things Chiefs arouses deep and heartfelt opinions which we post here for all to read. There are and always will be disagreements about coaching decisions, players, rules of the game, etc… That is all part of being an NFL fan. There is also incumbent upon all of us as Americans a duty to preserve order, respect dissent, tolerate differences and express our manifold freedoms with reverence and brotherly regard.

I myself have been thoroughly abused on Chiefsplanet.com. My views are bombastic, intensely held and highly subjective. They cause people to wonder if I’m a Chiefs fan at all (that is if I do not tote the party line about the current regime). However, none of us deserves the type of pack mentality mob rule that eventually caused me to withdraw from that fan forum altogether.

I am responding this day of 24 May 2002 because it was brought to my attention that I am still discussed or mentioned on that BB regularly even though I have not posted there since December 2001. One of those threads was started by JD Prez and included an invite to post here. For that I am grateful.

Cyberspace, like the streets of our cities, is accessible to the disrespectful and the hateful. What is a Chiefs fan then to do? Let’s pledge to be responsible, respectful and patriotic in our cyber discourse with one another. Let’s not reward the vile and belligerent with attention. Let us remember above all else, that there is a living, breathing human being on the other end of each post. Let us strive to preserve our unity as citizens and brothers regardless of our passionate disagreements about football, which, in the final analysis, is mere entertainment.

Finally, let us remember that we are a nation at war. This is a time to put aside the petty and the self-aggrandizing, and unite for the common cause. As a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, I have the privilege of wearing USA on my chest everyday. That is the one team we are all a part of and we will remain strong and undefeated as long as we commit to stand united, brave and faithful.

Cant belive anyone would let what is said in cyberspace effect them enough to leave a board,Chiefs Planet or other ?

Hell if you dont like what people say or post about you put them on ignore.

This crap of im leaving cause everyones picking on me is just plain horse shit.

Everyone of us have the right to express are beliefs and if we cant stand a little ribbing from others, well then they need to check to see if they have balls between there legs.

Before they post Im leaving

I never had a problem with the guy. I've been told more than a few others have, but I haven't.

And I agree with him on the DV/TrINT issue.

I didn't want either of them, and I'm not impressed. I don't want to be the Rams West, which now is irrelevant, 'cause we are or soon will be.

And I'm no fan of religon. As a whole, not a bad thing. But I have a serious problem with the Catholic church, which is pretty obvious to most. Not catholics themselves, but the decisions and decision makers that run it. That's why I left.

I also liked Marty, and many who've been here for a while will remember it being me and Proc and Barney VS. the world on here.

But (at least to my knowledge) I was never disliked in the way Proc was.

And I didn't leave.

And none of this is personal.

That's the only thing that caused me to lose any respect for 'em. How he up and left and, essentially, took his toys and went elsewhere. Outside of religon me and Proc agree on a whole lot. Mostly football related. Weather you opinion is popular or not, if you truly believe in it, you'll stand up an' fight for it. I do anyway.

Hey!!!

Ahh, the good old days. Partially it was the similarity of our names. Partially, it was the similarity of our views on Marty-vs-DV. But I can't recall the number of times I posted something to the effect of "Proctor and I don't agree on much, and I don't agree with his tone, but he has a point xxx."

Lzen , I am glad you have never been blasted , but you will be if you stand for Jesus on here . But that is ok , to be expected . I will not be run off or get mad and change boards . The main reason for us being on here is because we are Chief fans . I nor anyone else can say why the attacks happened on the WTC . Did God allow it , of course because it happened . Why did he allow it ,only God knows .
But i do know its time people awaken to the reality of the way things are . After this happened a lot of people started back to church and now some of them have stopped . The world is growing colder . In my lifetime i have seen things grow much worse . When i was a little boy murders in this area were very few and far between . Now its getting to be a common thing .
We had better look to the Lord Jesus Christ for help. He is our only hope . Did God allow the attacks to punish us or awaken us , only he knows , not i or anyone else . But we do need to wake up . Go Chiefs !

Brad,
The reason that Johnny got piled on, and you didn't, is that Johnny has tunnel vision.

Even now, he proclaims Marty deserves credit for the turnaround of the 'Skins season after their pathetic start, but refuses to give Vermeil credit for the Chiefs late season surge, claiming that Saunders deserves the credit, because of his time as an assistent to Marty.

I think that's a load of crap. We had a 2 or 3 month stretch were we had multiple prayer requests stuck at the top of the board each day. While I'm no longer a religious person, I respect the institution and those that are active participants.

Those of one faith or another greatly outnumber those who are not members of one of the four major faiths.....

Us heathens are in the minority.....

call it a load of crap if you want but its true . Yes it was great to have prayer requests on here . There are lots of very good people on here , thats why i am still on here . I never said that there weren't . But if you say that a Christian won't be attacked by some people on here then you are very wrong . And these people stick together .

I wouldn't say attacked. Most people respect and get along with their fellow fan friends....

Now, I might tell you yer' FOS every now and again, but not attack ya'......

I still disagree with this. Besides the few former Catholics trashing that religion, I'd like to see more than one non-KCJ example of someone being attacked for their religious beliefs. Use the search function to peruse the archives. I don't think you're going to be able to prove this....

I myself have been jumped on for my beliefs on this board and i am a Southern Baptist not a Catholic . I have even been put down because i am Mississippian lol. I am not saying this is a bad board , i think this is a great Chiefs board . But there a few people on this board who resort to name calling and belittling Christians when they stand up for Jesus or the Bible . But thats a part of life that we have to deal with . But saying it doesn't exist does not change the fact . Go Chiefs !

"Mostly folks can't stand him because he is a raving, religious lunatic who wraps himself in the flag and accuses anyone who disagrees with him of being un-American, un-Godly or un-manly."

frazod:

I didn't feel it necessary to explain all the boring details surrounding Proctor, as THE POINT concerned those who seem to foam at the mouth about Proctor (see above quote) even though he is no longer here - NOT a laundry list of why you resent him.

As there are others in this thread that welcome Proctor's presence on this BB it would seem the foreign concept you have yet to grasp is how to forgive and forget.

Perhaps you can work a little... more on... forgiveness...

Being attacked for your religious veiws is no worse than your non-religious views. Keep the faith, but keep it to yourself. This is not church.

The whole serviceman ending is just sickening. For him to put himself up on a pedistal is degrading to all the men and women who wear the uniform along side him. Not to mention the ones who have made the ultimate sacrifice for there country. Makes me want to puke.
