HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)

EDIT: Changed the original header to mark this as the thread where spoilers are allowed (but not necessarily recommended...). Created a new, spoiler-free thread for Ice and Fire virgins...

This is awesome...

Huge, Huge News

Nov. 11th, 2008 at 10:29 PM

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

The shittiest thing about this show is already knowing everything that's going to happen. I mean, I'm glad I read the books, but part of me wishes I hadn't.

On the other hand, this show looks like it will have an outstanding tit-to-minute ratio.

Big time. The guy playing Tyrion should really enjoy the production of this show.

I was scared that they were going to give away too much with the preview of the season after the show, but they did a great job of just giving little tidbits out that mean nothing without context (except to uber-nerds like me).

A word of warning - If you watch any FX drama, do not watch the previews after the first episode. They are notorious about giving away just about everything in that preview.

I had that same reaction, wishing somehow I could simultaneously know and not know what was happening. I love knowing backstory and knowing who all the characters are even though no one has acknowledged them yet (theon, the cassels, etc.) but I also would like to have known what it was like to be surprised by "the things I do for love" and jon finding ghost.

Also, got a bit of sympathy for Cersei and Catelyn which I never had while reading. Having them personified outside of my own head allows them to become something more than I had allowed them, cruel and stupid, respectively.

I am going to love this series.

I watched with my wife, who just started reading the book. I was trying to explain all of the failed arranged marriages (Robert and Ned's sister, Catelyn and Ned's brother) so her conclusion was, "so basically no one gets to marry who they want on this show". Given what happens going forward, that is a spot on assessment.

I will never have any sympathy for Sansa. Stupid ass bitch!

I have only read the first book, though. Really need to get on the ball. I think I'll read it again and then start reading the 2nd.

I cant remember, but weren't Cersei and Jaime talking about something rather than ****ing in the book? Or maybe both.

On an unrelated note, Sean Bean is a ****ing great actor. If you watch it again, just watch him during that direwolf scene. Just the look on his face when he realizes what it means. It was brilliant.
