Watch any video of Smith and you notice he goes through his progressions just fine. If his first read is there, he will throw it but he isn't the type of QB that just locks onto a receiver for the sake of it.

He has played in a Pro-Style offense!

Barkley is shorter, doesn't have the arm Smith does, really lacks the deep ball accuracy that Smith is great at and takes to many stupid chances with mediocre abilities. Sure he has played in a Pro-Style offense for quite awhile but Barkley has proven this year that his abilities pale in comparison of other QB's now.

Meh, it becomes extremely harder to do it that way.

I'd rather wiff on taking a chance at a guy who has the potential to be elite than settle for a guy with a low ceiling.

Barkley's tape also shows him staring down receivers. He's not good at manipulating the coverage with his eyes at all. A lot of the throws that he 'places' into tight coverage would be picked in the NFL.

They were talking about a can't miss franchise guy. There isn't one because there is basically never one which is why Clark would say he doesn't expect to get that call.

People need to calm down. As has been mentioned, the Colts owner was even publicly debating passing on Luck.

More ****ing bullshit.

USC had an absolutely terrible year on BOTH sides of the ball. Monte was forced out and if he hadn't "resigned", Lane would have been fired as well.

EVERYONE was second guessing Lane's play calling this season. The LA Times, the USC Boosters, students and alumni. They were preseason #1 and just fell apart and it certainly WAS NOT Barkley's fault.

And furthermore, his abilities absolutely DO NOT "pale" in comparison.

You're ****ing talking out of your ass.

Barkley's knock this year became he didn't have the arm to throw the type of passes he tried to do. It will only get worse in the NFL when everyone is even bigger, faster and smarter. He believes he is Brett Favre the way he throws the ball.

Bull sh*t Dane, Barkley was not a elite QB regardless of play calling or not. He just doesn't have elite abilities period!!!! To tell me otherwise if f**king horsesh*t and your not going to change my opinion on that. There is a reason he went from the supposed #1 QB entering this season to a 2nd rounder grade and dropping!

So, if this year's crop of QB's are determined to be "game managers", you'd rather pass?

And once again, outside of this forum, this class, which includes Smith, is looked upon as weak.

FWIW, Matt Ryan is exactly what I'm describing. Without Gonzalez, Rogers, White and Jones, he's a mediocre QB at best.

Barkley is actually pretty underrated on this board.

I just rate him a little lower cause I think his physical limitations will only allow him to get so good.

Barkley may or may not have a fine NFL career but it won't be because he think he's Brett Favre.

That's because someone convinced a few people that Geno Smith was the second coming of Dan Marino, and convinced people to hop on board.

Then why did he always go brain dead and try to throw passes he wasn't capable of? Barkley believes he has a bigger arm than he does. He always tried to fit sh*t into a tight spot where he ended up throwing a INT in a costly moment.

This. When it comes down to it...Clark isn't going to overrule the HC and GM on the #1 pick. He's running on his opinion alone at this point.

No, I'd rather take a chance on Bray or Smith or Wilson.

I'm not all about taking a Nasib or Manuel knowing that they likely have a lower ceiling.

And I'd absolutely take a Matt Ryan. I'm not really sure what to think about him yet. Same with Flacco.

I think there are 3 elite guys in the NFL. Manning, Rodgers and Brady. Brees is extremely good, but I'm not sure I put him quite there with those guys.
