Off Season Lets Talk Guns
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.
Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon? Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware? Part 2: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=293623 Last edited by Bearcat; 07-28-2015 at 06:06 PM.. |

It's questionable at best with some external testing....

OK, maybe it's just me and I'm totally wrong here, but the comparison to 2 .22LR just seems off. If you look at the gel block, you can see the two different initial patterns at the front "almost" compare to the 9mm. It still looks much smaller in scope to me. Then there's the, do I carry two 22LR or load every other round question. Should have fired 2 of the 9mm for an equal comparison.
Personally, I think he should have just stuck to the "no damage at the end of penetration" reasoning. The 22LR comparison just seemed as gimmicky as the RIP ammo videos.

I shoot the Aguila 62 grain bullet on top of the 22short case. I shoot them at or at almost point blank rang. At possums, coons, snakes ect. They tumble much past 10 yards, they dnt feed for shit either. I use them in a R-single six, that way feeding will not be an issue.
I will say this about that round. You wouldn't want to be on the business end of it.

Thanks.
I'm not sure comparing a 9mm to two .22LR's is a reasonable comparison but agree that these fragmenting bullets don't look like they're transferring much energy into the ballistics gel block.

So, not a huge purchase of guns and ammo. Still, it's kind of strange that all these non-military/law enforcement federal agencies are stocking up on guns and ammo. I think the cumulative effect of all these federal agencies buying all these small arms and ammo is somewhat troubling. It may be a back door way to drive up the price of guns and ammo and delay the general population from having access to this stuff. Hard to know for sure. We'd need to see what these type of purchases were like 10, 15, 20, 25 years ago to see if this is way off or just pretty typical.

I don't understand why new ammo companies aren't popping up to produce and make millions.

What will it take: 1. a manufacturing facility 2. capital (money, a big business loan unless someone already had $) 3. equipment (like, the stuff that makes ammo) 4. technical know how (people who like, know how to make ammo) 5. distribution network (hey, how about a website) 6. money, time, effort, all that hard work stuff what else? LET'S DO THIS!

I am worried about the government red-tape. Dealing with "explosives" and such.
This is primarily why I don't have a Class-III. I don't want to give them the power. Here is some interesting reading on the subject: http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/i.../t-343879.html |

A few years ago countless small gun makers started popping up all over the place. If you count up the increase in small AR companies alone it adds up to a substantial amount of sales. If more guns are being sold, I have no idea if long term sales have spiked, it stands to reason more bullets are being consumed. Most of mine sit around and collect dust, but I know guys who shoot enough ammo a month to make a car payment. There could easily be a spot in the market for another maker but the investment needed might be a lot more than most realize. |
