Interesting observation: Anti-Daboll fans site stats as their reasoning. Pro-Daboll fans site games they watch.
I think he meant "cite," not "site." People using poor grammar online... there just ignorant.

Doubt it. They probably had a handshake agreement after the Crennel interview and now just need to get the contract finalized. I remember in the book War Room where they had decided to hire Zorn but there were day long negotiations with his agent before hammering out a deal. So this is likely a similar situaton, with Pioli and Crennel flying back to KC today to get into the office and hammer out something to fax to the league on monday...

Out of the potential candidates we know of...I would say Daboll gives Cassel the best chance of remaining the starter.

That is my beef with Daboll...not his stint as an OC in Cleveland or Miami.

Well if Cassel does start this year and fails I don't see anyway he comes back next year, no matter what.

1 good year out of 4, I don't think there is anyway that Pioli can spin that. Even if he says you have to evaluate the guy from the 2010 season.

The reality is that short of signing Peyton Manning, who apparently has a short list of where he'd like to play and I'm assuming a cold weather city where he has to deal with the elements is not on the list, anyone you bring in to compete with Cassel has just as many warts on their game as Cassel does (Orton, Campbell, etc). You could argue Flynn, but he could also easily be the next Cassel, a system QB who isn't that good away from that system. So sure, hiring Saunders may have meant Jason Campbell would be signed and he'd have a better shot than Cassel, but that wouldn't necessarily have made us a better team, especially if you are now expecting your OL, your WR's, your TE's and your RB's to have to adjust to a system that they don't know or may not be suited for.

I still think they go hard after Orton. There have been way too many Orton references from Pioli and Crennel to make me think they won't try to get him to re-sign. But the problem I have is, does that guy make us significantly better? He definitely has a number of plusses over Cassel, but he has a lot of issues too if you watched him in Denver that eventually are likely to make us just as frustrated at him. I mean, can you imagine the Chiefs having a QB who would actually make our fan base clamor for a halfback who can occasionally complete a throw to replace him at QB?

He's already having a hard time spinning it for this year, it's why I'm thinking there will be veteran competition, I hope it's resigning Orton, though Orton might want to go where he's the starter going in.

I agree Orton isn't a Brady, but do you guys think that with a full season of Orton, the Chiefs still miss the playoffs?

IMO, it's Orton or Manning playing qb for the Chiefs if they are willing to sign here. If not, like our OC situation we will settle for Cassel.

Hell I'm not even an Iowa fan, but I think Stanzi could give Cassel a run for his money in a true competition. Not so much that I think Stanzi outduels him, but that I don't think Cassel has the mental ability to win something like that.

In my mind, Pioli has to win this year. He knows it. If he doesn't, the fans stay away. The team look bad. Clark Hunt looks bad. That whole Arrowhead Anxiety article remains at the forefront. And call me crazy, but I actually do believe that Clark has less patience than Lamar did, and that Clark wants to win. I think he wants to win the way the Patriots and Steelers do, which is why they put such an emphasis on the draft, because he doesn't see the Jerry Jones/Dan Snyder model doing anything with the big free agent splashes. So it's not plainly obvious. But if Pioli has another bad year, 2013 is it for him. and he can't go into 2013 placing all his hopes onto a new QB. They have to get something done this year. So if they sign someone like Orton or Campbell, or draft someone, it wouldn't be surprising to see Cassel go into the offseason as No 1 on the depth chart, but it also would not surprise me to see him get yanked permanently if he does not deliver immediately...

Just for me I don't see how you can go into the season with Cassel as the number one guy, seeing what has happened the last couple years.

I don't obviously give him as much credit for 2010 as the front office does, but I think they are a little homerishly blinded by it. I think it's just Pioli wanting to pound his chest saying "look what I did, me, no one else" kinda thing and I don't think Clark sees it that way.

I give Clark more credit than most people in that I see him like you do.

Also I just don't see Cassel winning a legit competition.

Call me crazy, but I think our "Cassel days are over".
