Good enough for what? A single playoff loss? He also had a hall of fame receiver lined up on the other side btw, if you didn't know that already. The problem is that our #2 receiver's production is almost exactly the same as our supposed #1's.

And T.Y. Hilton was the 2nd WR. And you can THROW IT DEEP to him cause he can consistently get behind the defense.

Donnie Avery started 14 games for the Colts last year. He played over 1000 snaps.

He had 25 deep targets. This year he has 7.

Not Alex Smith's fault though.

When you don't have a Calvin Johnson it is usually not prudent to go long a lot.

They are mostly a sign of desperation for a teams or a luxury item you can mix in when you prove to a defense you can game manage them to death.

Peyton Manning doesn't and never had a laser rocket arm. He hits the big plays with timing. The defenses try and act vs. play smart and react to an offense. They are out of position and are vulnerable.

Its not the 1970s NFL or the 1990s 2 hand touch in the back yard.

Totally agree with you. A prolific offense is all about producing enough to keep moving the chains and deep passes are a luxury.

You guys might have missed clays "analysis" on another thread but he tried to show Alex Smith was a bad qb by logging his deep pass attempts which were bottom of the league. Then he found out that the patriots during a 5000 yard passing season had the same percentage of attempts (and nearly the same number of total attempts).

Then it basically reverted to Alex sucks soliloquies.

Our problem right now isn't that we can't pass deep. We are having problems sustaining drives
