You've just named the three worst programs in the SEC. Their recruiting ended up ranked 22, 35, and 39 respectively. That would put them third, fifth, and seventh in the Big 12. The worst team on that list is 17 spots ahead of the Big 12 champ.

Yes. It has helped those teams.

The middle class of the SEC (excluding the newcomers) would be teams like Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas, and Georgia. Two of those teams have won national titles as SEC teams in the last 15 years, and the other two have been top five teams in the past two years.

Middle class in the Big 12 would be Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and Tech. Those aren't awful programs or anything, but they aren't Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, and Arkansas.

I referenced the last 50 years. If I said 3-9, that wouldn't have been correct before 2005. You see, the SEC bottom feeders (cough cough) have sucked for eons. It's not a new thing - nor will it ever change.

Got nothin' to do w/ recruiting. Them 'n the ACC already rape that state yearly. Rutgers probably doesn't keep more than 1 or 2 of it's top players most years.

It's an awful football program. Makes Mizzou look like a blue blood by comparison and their hoops aren't any better. State of probably 8 or 9 million people and they generate so much local interest they play home games in a juco stadium. They actually managed to take their crap product and dilute it further with the Scarlet Knights and Maryland.

Rutgers has signed the last two 5 star recruits from the state of New Jersey. Big Ten schools have always recruited New Jersey hard. Iowa has lived in that state. Wisconsin got its Hesiman Trophy winner from there. Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan all recruit it. Quite a bit of talent comes from New Jersey. Big Ten starts playing there regularly and it will own it recruiting wise. Rutgers stadium is not a JUCO stadium. It seats 52k and was remodeled. Hell they just built the current stadium in 1994. Not to mention the Big Ten has been intrested in Rutgers for some time. They were on the expansion list with MU and KU back in the early 90s. Rutgers is now a solid program to where they came from, which was pretty close to K-State level. Its a solid additon to the Big Ten that makes sense for both parties at all levels.

Mississippi State finished ranked 15th two seasons ago.

Kentucky just ended a streak of five straight years of bowl games. They won three in a row including wins over Florida State and Clemson.

Vanderbilt has been to consecutive bowls and is coming off a nine win season. They finished the season ranked in the top 20.

Those are the worst programs in the SEC. If you want to talk about 50 years ago, have fun. I wouldn't want to talk about the present if I were you, either.

As for the Big XII we aren't in that league any longer. I'm concerned w/ how we stack up against the teams we compete w/ now. If we were playing OkSt, TCU, KU, Ist, etc I'd see you point. As we aren't it seems irrelevant.

Also, Auburn is a traditional power. They have gone undefeated 3 times in the past 20 years and of course won the NC in 2010. It's a top 25 program all time, probably top 20. Since 1976 no school outside the big six as won the SEC, w/ Aub being one of those schools along w/ Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. They are by any measure, a traditional power.

Mississippi is roughly 35% black. Translation: talent and a lot of it. The state puts more players per capita into the NFL than darn near any other. At one time it was #1 per capita, but those rankings were several years ago in terms of what I saw, regardless it is very close to the top if it isn't still #1. Even being the doormats that the MS schools have been since the 60s when Ole Miss was good (more or less) and a brief spike for Miss St in the 90s having all of that in state talent is a huge advantage for them. Obviously they have a hard time taking advantage of it but it is something we do not have.

Outside of Arkansas and Kentucky I can't think of another state that doesn't have more h.s. football talent. And then of course in terms of winning and history and all that aTm, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, and Arkansas have all had more success.

Yes being in the SEC has it's +'s, but we aren't running with the Iowa State's of the world any longer. I don't know if you were paying attention but the Big XII's co conference champ got beat by 50 by the SEC's 4th best team.

Pinkel hiring family members and promoting lapdogs that can't recruit their weight ain't gonna cut it in the deep end swimming with the sharks. The point isn't that MU should quit trying. The point is that the odds are very long and if the school is going to be competitive it has to rethink the way it conducts business and go at more along the lines of how Arkansas is operating. IDK if Bielema will be successful or not but you take a look at the staff they just assembled and then compare that to what Pinkel did with opportunities to upgrade the staff once last year and again this year and then tell me with a straight face which is school is actually trying and which school is standing by watching its coach go through a mid life crisis as he drives our program back into the ground from which he to his credit did build it up.
