Off Season Lets Talk Guns
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.
Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon? Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware? Part 2: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=293623 Last edited by Bearcat; 07-28-2015 at 06:06 PM.. |

That place was a great find, like opening a hole new world to the Mini's for me. I had to have Bugs buy my first mini back in 85 or 86. I wasn't old enough . Last edited by LiveSteam; 05-05-2014 at 06:57 AM.. |

Do you have any recommendations on scopes for the mini 30?. My AR already has a red dot so I'm looking to put a scope on the mini 30. I don't know the first thing about scopes or rings for that matter. I've been reading the perfectunion thread on them. It looks like everyone loves Nikon m223 and someone mentions the Redfield 2x7 accurange. I'm looking to keep it under $200.

2.8-10X44. Awesome awesome scope. You can find them on ebay for around 100 to 120 bucks. Scopes bigger then a 40 mil objective lens, ruger stock scope-rings may not work on your rifle. I had to purchase this to mount the Aetec http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/251070536805?lpid=82 The trick to buying the good Aetec's is the gold inlay on the bell = will always be made in the Philippians . If it doesn't have the gold inlay, its either China or Japaneses ground glass,=made on junk machinery. Model: 2101 here is a real nice one, still new in the box. Ya dnt see that often, new in the box http://www.ebay.com/itm/Simmons-Aete...item2a3c0b7784 Last edited by LiveSteam; 05-05-2014 at 11:40 PM.. |

I cant speak for the Nikon. Never looked through one. I do have a Redfield 2X7 wide angle, with rang finder on my lil girls Henry 22. That is a Vietnam era rang finder. & many a hunter swears by it. Its such a lil fart though. I bought it for that 1944 Mauser I built last winter, but IMO it;s just to small. so the kid got it The trick with scopes is gathering light,& quality ground glass. The bigger the objective lens, the more light it captures & the better you can see in low light situations, along with a much wider view, when looking through it |

I'm guessing a 3-9x 40mm is the way to go? Or a 2-7x 32mm. I don't want it to be a super long scope, as compact as I can get without losing all the goodness of it. It looks like most are 11-12 inches. |

If any of you guys can use a LULA Magazine speed loader and unloader 7.62 x 51 Nato /.308 Win Mag let me know and I'll cut you a deal. I ordered this by mistake on a bad day and started to load my AR with it. I have bought the one for the AR/5.56 and it works great, but I can't use this one. If you can use it, I'll sell it for $13 and ship it on the house. Shoot me a PM.

The Nikon that you have already mentioned is also a good bet. I would also take a look at the Vortex Crossfire line. Vortex makes a crossfire in 1-4x that looks very interesting, but I do not have experience with it. If you could bump your budget up slightly, I would recommend the CMR Leatherwood Hi Lux 1-4 And if you get the sickness and really want to do some damage, the single best optic I have ever purchased dollar for dollar is the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x I have the Vortex on my AR. Why do I have such a hard on for the Viper and low magnification scopes generally? I'm glad you asked... The Viper has an illuminated reticle that is probably the best I've ever used. It lights up in a sort of donut shape with a pin point in the middle. This sucker is fast. On my shot timer, my times are identical with a red dot sight and this scope on 1x. It is an extremely easy to see reticle against any background. But it is also capable of pin point accuracy, unlike the red dots, which cover 6 inches or more of your target at any real range. I've also used the reticle to great effect for ranging and holdovers. I've shot my rifle at balloons 500 meters away and get hits every time because the glass is clear (something cheap scopes just dont offer), my reticle is small enough that it doesn't cover the whole target, and the reticle helps me make choices. Besides all that, the Viper turrets are great and come with shims for zero stops. Realistically with a mini 14/ar 15 shooting 223/556, the longest shot you can take is 800 yards. Usually less than that, and in your case 100 yards. You don't realistically need magnification at that distance. Lots of people can shoot irons at that distance and keep their groups sub MOA. 1-4 scopes are light, and often come with nice touches like illuminated reticles so you can go fast and be accurate. |

I don't own the Leatherwood, but I have handled one. I will probably buy one some day. I was very impressed particularly given price.
It is really popular in 3 gun right now. |
