HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)

EDIT: Changed the original header to mark this as the thread where spoilers are allowed (but not necessarily recommended...). Created a new, spoiler-free thread for Ice and Fire virgins...

This is awesome...

Huge, Huge News

Nov. 11th, 2008 at 10:29 PM

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

Are you already predicting its demise, or am I missing something?

Sorry. Unclear wording. I was typing fast at work....

It just makes me sad to think that it possibly won't go the distance. Just the idea that it could end after only 2 seasons bums me out. I'm thrilled to no end that we'll have 2 seasons. But I hope that's not all she wrote.

That's all. Not predicting, necessarily. But given the cost of the show, it's realistic to imagine there won't be 7 (or more if they start splitting books into multiple seasons) seasons.

Of course, there's also the real possibility that Martin won't finish the books on pace with the show. What happens if it does get a full run, and we hit season six before book six is complete? Does the show become the spoiler?

Another thought -

Do we know for certain that season two will follow Clash Of Kings? It would be complete stupidity if it didn't. But look at things like Dexter. As I understand it, Season One of Dexter follows the first book, but after that it's completely different. Is that true?

It would really piss me off if they started inventing stories in Westeros before faithfully adapting Martin's books.

Yet another thought... the kids aren't going to look the same age over several seasons. Remember what happened to poor Walt on Lost?

As slavish to the source material as they were in the pilot, I doubt they'll be going outside the lines a whole lot.

The novels span several years and the children start older in the series, so I don't think this will be a problem.

Well, they're not making this up as they go along - I imagine if any cast members become wrong for the part, age too quickly, die or get surly with contract demands, they'll simply be replaced by other actors.

GRRM says it will be A Clash of Kings, and he is writing the Battle of the Blackwater

Awesome. Call me relieved. I figured it would have to be. But sometimes executives are stupid.

Damn it. THey keep re-airing it & I watched it. I just started watching the Tudors & Camelot. Though I could walk away from Camelot. I don't know if it's the acting, writing, scenery or all three, but Camelot is lacking.

I've been meaning to check that out, but I keep hearing things like this. The consensus seems to be that it isn't terrible... just kinda "meh".

first of all Arthur doesn't look like a king he looks more like a gawky kid who just got out of puberty with a surfer dude due. Lancelot has a Beiber hairstyle, it just seems like they trying modernize it too much. Though, Joseph Fienes as Merlin is badass.

Fienes as Merlin makes the show watchable. I've been watching The Borgias. That is better than Camelot but this Game of Thrones(never read any books just followed this thread) is totally badass.

Yeah, I watched it twice last night. Loved it the first time, then talked a buddy into watching it because it was cool, and I didn't mind seeing it again... (helps to get the names straight and the who's who worked out for us noobs.)
