That is absolutely not how the game is played and that has never been how the game is played.

What fear should they have? That your pitcher is going to make a bad pitch, get tattooed and then ear-hole them? That's no different from crowding the plate, getting hit by a pitch 2 inches inside, then charging the mound. In fact, it's probably worse.

That's bullshit neanderball.

The 'unwritten rules' are simple - the hitter gets the inside, the pitcher gets the outside. This idea that the hitters should 'fear' the pitcher is nonsense if the hitter is staying within himself and his arena. If the hitter respects the pitcher, there should be absolutely nothing for him to 'fear' in the box and every single one of the notorious pitchers in baseball would agree. The petulant horses asses that can't harness their own stuff - the Carlos Zambrano's of the world - might disagree.

Carlos Quentin should fear getting hit because he crowds the plate and doesn't try to move at all. Guys like Kenny Lofton should fear getting hit because they're constantly diving out there and poking outside pitches in a zone that belongs to the pitcher.

But all the Braves did tonight was hit shitty overthrown pitches from an overamped kid. Hitting one of them for it would be a completely bush-league move.

I guess the Royals and their 6 HRs all year don't have to worry about that sort of thing. I guess 20 years of being the butt of every joke makes you forget what professionalism is in this game. But I assure you, good team don't hit guys for doing nothing more than their jobs. Professional teams don't drill guys for embarrassing them when they're the ones that made it possible through failing to execute.

Teams that are new to the whole 'not sucking dicks' thing and are pouting because their favorite new flamethrower was throwing slop all night smoke guys that simply outperform them.

Agree that hosmer and moose need to flash and flash soon. We all know that if they don't then we won't do shit this year. Our season is riding on our young position players to hit. We can have all the pitching in the world and still not do shit. We aren't the Giants so don't come at me with that argument.

Looks like a long losing streak is imminent, unfortunately. Goddamnit.

Thank you, Cards fan, for your passive-aggressive, condescending bullshit education of what it means to be a "winning" franchise.

Batters shouldn't ever dig in too deeply with a pitcher with Herrera's velocity on the mound. Don't believe that? Fine. You're wrong. There's simply no other way around that, and to claim otherwise is to not know the culture of a clubhouse.

A pitcher like Herrera must be effectively wild. To me, he's far too passive tonight, and then he turned into an emotional cluster****.

Good teams, from college on, better have a bit of ****ing swagger to them, and the Royals have lacked this attitude, on the mound particularly, for the better part of 25 years.

Actually good pitchers have owned the inside portion of the plate until the last 25 years (Steroid era). Now.. shut the **** up and go back to your thread.

DJLN has just overextended himself here. Batters don't own a ****ing thing. Pitchers and catchers must take control over the inner half, and that's typically the first priority in any game from the perspective of these two players.

Exactly. I wonder what someone like Mariano Rivera would say to the "Hitters control the inside part of the plate" bullshit.

With the way our pitchers roll over you would think Darrel Kyle is our pitching coach.

Sure thing, champ.

Keep hitting guys when you suck dicks.

You'll get a TON of your own guys hurt for it. Go ahead and blast Upton tomorrow because he turned around a garbage changeup from your hyperactive noob. They'll stick one in Moustakas's ear in retaliation.

Herrera has no business being 'effectively wild' when he has pinpoint control when his emotions are in check. The kid knows how to control the zone and he does it to great effect when he's in control. Guys like Troy Percival that didn't know where the pitch was going had to resort to being effectively wild but it wasn't by design. Percival himself admitted he simply couldn't see the plate.

You're absolutely wrong. Pitchers do not hit guys just because they throw hard and happened to get blasted that day. They don't hit guys to send a message just because hitters happened to turn around their slop.

The guys that do learn about the 'culture of the clubhouse' really quickly when their teammates start barking at them for getting them hit in response. Guys like Vincente Padilla would do exactly what you're talking about - hit a guy because he couldn't get his pitches under control. And his teammates hated him for it.

I haven't overextended myself at all. You made a jackass statement out of anger and demanded an act that would've made you lose your goddamn mind had the opponent done it to you.

You do not hit guys in this league because they executed better than you did. You just don't.

Ever listen to Gibson talk about pitching? Gibson will give you the schpiel I just gave you word for word. If you respected the outer-half, Gibson was not going to drill you.

Moreover, do you know how many guys Gibson hit in his entire career? 103. And while that sounds like quite a few at first blush, the man threw nearly 4,000 innings. That's 1 HBP for every 37 innings. If you figure on today's 'common' standard of about 225 IP for a high-inning SP, that's a whopping 6 HBP per year.

6 HBP would've put him 25th in MLB last year, tied with such notable headhunters as Colby Lewis, Will Ohman and Brandon McCarthy. Bob Gibson didn't hit you for beating him. Bob Gibson rarely hit you at all. And considering he walked 1300 batters on his career and was prone to occasional bouts of wildness, a great deal many of those HBP were wildly overblown.

You're just wrong here - you don't hit a guy because he beat you.
