Is anyone else totally digging this show? Perfect blend of comedy, *light* drama, and storytelling.

Captain Awesome is my favorite character

This is why Neilsen ratings are absurd. Sporting events will always impact numbers as shows can be DVRd. Sports are better watched live.

I so despise Neilsen ratings system as I find it antiquated.

Ausiello was saying yesterday it's going to be renewed, likely a half-season order (which I think would mean we don't see it until January 2011, just like this season):

Multiple sources confirm that NBC is expected to do the right thing and renew the action comedy for a fourth season. Per one insider, the show has thus far figured into all of the network’s preliminary plans for its May 17 upfront presentation.

Although a 13-episode pickup is the most likely scenario, my moles suggest that there’s also chance the show could be given a full season order.

An NBC rep had no comment. Series creator Josh Schwartz, meanwhile, says not to believe the hype. Renewal? “That’s news to me,” he swears. “I would urge fans to take nothing for granted… and watch tonight’s all-new episode, guest-starring Doc Brown himself, Christopher Lloyd, and the return of Anna Wu (Julia Ling).”

Agreed...been saying it for years now.

Do they even take into account hulu streaming shows, downloads for IPhone, DVR's, etc?? Everybody time shifts now.....

Nielsen ratings is so ****ed, its like ok i watch it live, but my vote for watching it live does not count.

I dont even know anyone with a neilsen box. its just one huge assumption on what people are watching and you know the great saying in the only thing good about under seige 2. Assumption is the mother of all **** ups.

There's nothing wrong with Nielsen's process from a statistical standpoint. Just like they don't survey very many people for public opinion polls, there's no reason to have a lot of boxes out there for Nielsen ratings.

As mentioned, however, the issue is that people don't watch TV like they used to. Nielsen's system, to my knowledge, doesn't account for delayed viewership at all (whether DVR, online, or any other process). Given that DVR's are almost the norm anymore, their "live" TV ratings are likely missing out on a big piece of the puzzle.

Actually, I dug into it a little more, and DVR viewing IS actually measured by Nielsen. It's typically not reported in the general "ratings" news releases, but the networks themselves have access to that data (as well as the Hulu data, presumably). All ratings are reported as "live," "live plus same-day," and "live plus seven days" to account for DVR viewing. The issue is that DVR viewers are notorious for skipping commercials, so the networks are most interested in live viewers. Thus, that's the number that usually gets reported.

So maybe Nielsen isn't so bad after all.

I fail to see how their #1 rated show on Mondays fails to get a full season pick up. I mean, they're in last place as it is, so why not keep what's doing well and hope a new show catches steam AND THEN MOVE THAT to compete on Mondays....

This show is ****ing awesome. Finally got caught up on that episode. Best one of the season, IMO. Soooo much character development.

what i dont get is that even the office doesnt get that many people watching it, but their demo is 3.0, its like wow really? I dont watch the Office anymore. i used to love that show, but this season has been terrrible.

This season has actually been a fair bit better than last season. Last week in particular was hilarious in a painful way.

its going to keep being 13 again, it doesnt really matter if its 13 or 22. They always have a midseason thing before it goes on hiatus anyways.
