So, I didn't see a thread started, and all the others are pretty maxed out to the point where a fresh thread would be needed soon either way.

Time to share the run up to ST & and another memorable year in the making!

I really feel as though you don't know the difference between a manager and a general manager in MLB.

He gave up 1.5 years of Cespedes for Lester and Gomes. I thought that was a pretty fair deal for both sides.

Maybe you're thinking of the Russel trade?

It was a gamble, yes. But it's not like he got a nobody in return. He made the trade to get a bonafide ACE for a playoff run. And ace with a ridiculous track record in the actual playoffs. I don't know anyone who thought it was a terrible move OR an overpay. Cespedes is good, don't get me wrong. But he didn't have control of him after 2015 and he wasn't likely to resign.

Beane traded for a playoff run. In hindsight, it didn't work out. But it wasn't an overpay, IMO.

The trade you proposed, giving up a possible 12 years of control over two of our top 5 prospects including a potential ace (TINSTAPP) for exactly one year of Cespedes is the very definition of overpay.

Beane gave up Russell and McKinney for 1.5 years of Jeff Samardzija and 0.5 years of Jason Hammel. He also gets a sandwich pick back when Shark walks. That's obviously a higher price than Manaea and Dozier for Cespedes but it's more value coming back to Oakland, too.

I don't buy Cespedes as a star level hitter, and I question his fit in KC. Especially if he doesn't want to move off of LF and is as much of a locker room malcontent as reported.

If Hamas was referring to this trade, I'd agree with him a little more. I thought this one was a head scratcher and a bad move by Beane.

As far as Cespedes goes, he's a fit if he's willing to play RF. We need a RH bat with some pop. But he doesn't walk, and is fairly streaky. Would I like him for 2015? Absolutely. Especially given the few RH options out there outside of Tomas. But I don't think I'd be willing to pay anything more than Almonte to get him.

We had more than 2 (cardinals) and 3 (marlins) combined. And more in the playoffs than the Giants did all year

Cespedes gives you a skill set no one else on your roster has shown at the ML level. Not only does he have more raw power than any Royal, he gives you right-handed power.

Dozier isn't much more than a utility player if he makes an ML roster at all. Trading Manaea, who has shown injury issues, when he hasn't pitched a single frame above High-A, isn't an overpay. You're overrating your prospects.

I don't think much of Dozier but Manaea is prob a top 30 prospect if he pitches like he did 2nd half. He was a potential 1 overall pick after crushing the Cape Cod league. His injury probs are much less worrisome than Zimmers. One could argue he profiles a bit like Hoch or Crow who are worth more than 1 year (plus 10M bucks) of Cespedes.

I would like him in RF that's for sure. What are comp deals for 1 year rentals?

Obviously anyone who wants proven ML power is going to have to overpay, either in cash or prospects, or both, to acquire it.

Tomas appears most attractive because of the scouted power and success of Cuban hitters, but that's no guarantee. At least in his case we'd control him for 4-5 years (even at $16/17 million a year.)

Upton and Cespedes come with 1 year of control and the right to exclusively negotiate...but there's little to no chance they'd re-up without tasting free agency so that's a huge risk.

I know I'm a broken record, but I come back to Matt Kemp as a fallback plan to Tomas. The Dodgers would send money to make it work and we'd lose some significant talent, but I think he still has juice left and would give us a few years of control.

Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins for Jason Heyward, Jordan Walden and a comp pick.

That's ten years of control including a player who is, at worst, a #4 with #2 upside and another top 100 prospect.
