You are comparing apples to oranges. And after last year's abomination, there will be a very major out cry if a Bama goes back to back seasons of losing a home game and playing the NC.

Which may just have something to do with playing mediocre to bad teams for most of the season (the 2nd highest team they've played on the Sagarin ratings is #21 ASU). Stanford and Oregon State will provide tougher tests in the next few weeks, I hope, but I don't think anybody will get a firm grasp of how good they are until they get outside of their P12 bubble.

It's an abomination when the best team in the country wins the national title over the second best team in the country? I'm afraid we have different definitions of abomination.

As I said, abomination.

Not me. I don't underestimate the grind of a SEC football schedule. It's sort of like the BE in basketball in which it is impossible to assume anybody would go undefeated (or what the BE used to be anyway).

Should we call the 2007 Patriots as good as the 2007 Giants too while we're at it? Last I checked, playoff games meant more than regular season ones.

Once again comparing apples to oranges. The NFL has a playoff system that brought those two teams back together. The current BCS does not.

Not at all, it's a very apt analogy. When you reach the playoffs, the outcomes in the regular season cease to be relevant (or else the 2007 Patriots would be co-SB champs with the Giants). And yes, the BCS National Championship game is the current playoff system in college football. Everything before that game is erased and you're left with two teams (who are, in theory, the best two teams) battling for the right to be the best of that season.

Yes, to the extent that they are both playoff systems, they both decide champions, and they both erase/render irrelevant regular season results (which is what we were talking about). What isn't clear about that?
