I thought Shields should have tried for the shutout...but we have a pretty damn good guy who pitches the 9th and it didn't work out

still won another series

Thats fine, a lot of managers think that way. In that case, send Shields out there until anyone gets on base.

And 100 out of 100 times, Yost hasn't had a hot James Shields as his starting pitcher when he's made the decision.

That's what i say about handling the pitching staff all the time

If they are pitching well and aren't past their pitch count then you leave them in

unnecessary pitching changes are an unneeded risk

Yost loves to make changes whether they are needed or not

Yea, Alex cracked his bat on the second pitch, which was in the zone.
Esky went down on about four pitches that were out of the zone.
Butler just missed on one that was in the zone. I guess I would have just liked to have seen us take a few extra pitches. Especially Alex.

Absolutely not. I said before the inning Shields absolutely should be back out there in the 9th. 100%, no doubt about it. If James gives up a baserunner, then it's a gray area and I wouldn't complain either way.

I would have much rather see James Shields get beat going down swinging than bring in Holland, who clearly didn't have it today. That's on the pitching coach and the manager.
