I will not fault a manager for bringing in his closer to protect a lead. The fourth time through the order, it is definitely advantageous to throw a new pitcher at them, imo.

I thought Shields should have tried for the shutout...but we have a pretty damn good guy who pitches the 9th and it didn't work out

Managers generally don't decide wins and losses, maybe 2 or 3 times a season. But at what point do you hold a manager accountable for an in-game decision if you're mindset is , "well, that's just the way baseball is"? And nobody is calling for him to be fired for god's sake. But he ****ed up. It's ok to acknowledge that and then move on to the next game.

His most important job is getting the team in the right frame of mind, establishing consistent roles and managing the bullpen. BUT, there are times during a season where a decision is made that should be second-guessed (first-guessed in this case) and this was one of them.

believe it or not, I think that number would be greater than or equal to zero for Ned. Today aside, he's the least-stupid manager we've had in roughly 2 decades.

Holland has been lights out. I would have kept Shields in, but seriously...

it's not Armageddon. If we had Mitchell Boggs as our closer it might have been armageddon...

but Holland has been damn good this month.

How long do you consider to play both Moose and Frenchy in the same starting lineup? We've got to find some offense from somewhere. Trade Frenchy for a bag of batting practice balls and eat his $7.5 mill, and bring up Lough? Whaddya think?
