Results in the preseason mean jack and shit. It's all about preparing a team properly, and today demonstrated that Haley didn't accomplish this.

In '09, he was an absolute embarrassment as a head coach, far worse (despite how feverishly some may hope) than Herm. Last year, there seemed to be legitimate steps forward. However, the controversy with Weis late in the year seemed to affect Cassel negatively, and we were playing a very soft schedule.

Thus, '11 is a big year in evaluating what type of coach Haley really is. So far, things don't look good at all. Fortunately, the sample size is ridiculously small.

I agree with all of this. I think Haley was more concerned about keeping his guys healthy than getting them ready to play, both in camp and in preseason games. To me, that is the equivalent of playing not to lose, it rarely results in success.

Not sure if this approached is solely to blame for this loss. As pointed out earlier, Pittsburgh was destroyed and they had a better preseason. Several playoff teams from last year were beaten soundly today---Indy, Pitt, KC, Atlanta, Seattle.

Still no excuse for our guys to come out and completely suck in the manner in which they did. Assigning blame is useless at this point...what I want to see is the team hit the pads very very hard in practice this week. Harder than training camp. Time to beat some good football into them.

I think the lack of hitting in camp had as much to do with today as the poor preseason. I think your starters have to do some hitting before the season starts, whether it is in the preseason games or in camp. The Chiefs did neither, and it showed today.

This. I have wanted to be able to root for Cassel. I wanted him to succeed and I refrained from bagging on him too much. But yesterday he looked just as lost/scared as he did against the Ravens in the playoffs. We need a real QB.

Having said that, this was a team loss. All phases sucked today. B. Rich sucks, too.
