According to espn, kc brought 3 blitzes yesterday. Remember that's 5 or more players not 4 from different positions.

They said the chiefs are now 22nd in total defense. They couldn't recall a time when a team dropped this much in one season.

Last season the 49'ers defense went to $3it the final 4 games and the playoffs.

They started puking up pts.

This defense was always high risk - high reward.

I think this D will be fine vs. 1st round teams. I'd be confident playing anyone.

But the Pats or Donks? When we play a QB that can make quick fire decisions consistently and negate our pass rush?...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Case went 271 Yards off of 15 Completions.

Simple Math suggests 18 Yards per completion.

18 ****ing yards per completion to a 3rd string QB.

Yup.....Writing on the wall right there.

That is the risk/reward for blitzing and not getting there though

I'll take it as long as the end result isn't a TD

That's the point though, man.

Against good QB's the blitz won't get there because our DB's can't cover long enough to allow the pressure to get there.

If you're going to Blitz you need to have the DB's to punish you for chucking it up. Right now, QB's are completing damn near everything. They're identifying the 1v1 matchups and throwing it up. Our DB's don't have the ball skills and our safties are often out of position to make the QB pay for it.

Like you said: Risk vs Reward. And right now the Reward for going deep on the Chiefs is far greater than the risk....especially if the DB you're attacking is Cooper is has been Bartee like with getting his head around.

It's not even about 1 guy. Each game a QB can find the 1 on 1 they like and milk it.

Smith is the most Bartee-like corner on this team. The guy is consistently in position to make a play and almost never does. His situational awareness is $3it.

You can excuse some of that in a rookie like Cooper. He should get better with time. Smith is a different story...

Well my original point was that we aren't blitzing as much which is leaving our weaker secondary exposed. I would like to see how many times we sent more than 4 guys after the QB yesterday

Off the top of my head just thinking back, I can't remember more than 5 blitzes in that game, 2 of which were late in the game, and succesful and pivotal in the win.

Blitzing leaves 1 on 1 matchups with Frank Zombo, Kendrick Lewis etc.

Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't sound like a great idea.
