Chiefs cream the Royals in TV ratings

kevin kietzman (@kkwhb) tweeted at 10:12 AM on Mon, Aug 24, 2015:
At its highest point, Chiefs TV audience share beat Royals TV 38-13 on Friday night.

There are so many things going for the NFL in terms of ratings that doesn't even consider the actual product on the field. If football hypothetically had 162 games and baseball 16 then baseball games would receive the "event" treatment.

This is probably true but the strike of 94 and baseball's lack of revenue sharing hurt the game for along time also the steroids stuff which was a stupid story. NFL could see the same with shit like deflate gate.

Hasn't it already? Soccer isn't too far behind either. The national team popularity sure has grown. Not saying it will compete for a top 3 spot though. Hell, even lacrosse, at least in terms of kids playing it, is going to be incredibly competitive in 10 years. It already is in a lot of regions.

There was an article, I'm assuming posted here, that showed that the NFL's popularity is actually going down when you break it down by age group. 20-30 and especially 10-20 is not nearly as NFL heavy has 30-50 is.

I actually think the steriod era actually helped it come back from the strike, but your point is still true. Baseball has done a lot to itself, but I really think the 16 game schedule gets overlooked as a big reason.

It's been discussed here quite a bit over the past 5-7 years, it's nothing new.

Personally, I still think the conference championship games and the Super Bowl are right up there with what any other sport has to offer... overall though, it's the Bud Light of sports, watered down for mass consumption. They've created a quarterback league without nearly enough quality quarterbacks.

The 16 game schedule is a huge reason but so are the economics IMO guys like Gordon will not be a lifetime Royal and that's a shame. If Justin Houston were a Royal he would not have been resigned.

It does great at the gate, but it's no where close as far as tv ratings, which is great. One day commercial free OTs will go away. It's already begun though, as games last season were consistently 5-10 minutes longer.

The NHL has the perfect level of parity... a couple more teams might not hurt, but hopefully we're still decades away from it becoming as watered down as the NFL.

I still enjoy football. I don't think it's that bad yet.

However, I always call out football fans who bash baseball too. Baseball has more parity than football. This entire century so far has been pretty much Brady, Manning and Roethlisberger winning the AFC almost every year.

That might go back to just not having enough QBs for a QB driven league, as mentioned. Meanwhile almost every AL team has made a run or two in the last decade. Every team in the AL Central has been in the playoffs in the last 10 years, and three of them have been to the World Series. The Twins made the ALCS in 2002 (among their many playoff appearances) and the Indians did in 2007.

That's kind of the irony of it. People clamor and clamor for a QB, but most of them aren't really that good. Even the halfway decent ones like Romo and Rivers have had very little overall success. There's a group of about 5 or 6 QBs who do most of the winning. And it might get worse when it's basically Luck, Wilson and Rodgers ruling over the league. You basically need a guy to become record breaking hot (Flacco in the playoffs) to break through.
