Jack Reacher was another excellent Cruise movie of late.
Nothing new or original, just a very solid, well made movie. Posted via Mobile Device |

I saw it in IMAX 3D on my giant screen. It was good. Could've been longer, which is something I never say about a movie and shows that it's good. Original? Absolutely not: it's "Groundhog Day" with aliens. But Cruise is always good, the effects are decent, and the time loop provides humor. Plot holes the size of "Godzilla" but who cares. It won't blow you away but it's an enjoyable 2 hours.

I thought it actually was original in a few ways. The type of characters that both Cruise and Blunt played both being the most obvious ones. I did not expect Cruise to be anything like he was at the beginning of the movie, and I can't remember the last female character that utterly badass (particularly one who wasn't just written as a man with boobs). He was the protagonist, but I thought she was the hero, beginning to end. And that's not something you see done a lot or done well.

Going to go check this out today. I was told by the kid that we will NOT be watching it in 3D, lol. She's not a fan.

Other than the first 20 minutes, I loved it. And, really I shouldn't even complain about that, because they have to set the story up somehow, and I can't think of another way of establishing the story, so that's being rather nit picky on my part.
I think it's definitely a sleeper hit for a blockbuster summer movie, that's also a quality film. I don't even care to pick apart holes there may possibly be in the plot line. All I know is I was completely into the movie once the action started, and engrossed with a real sense of suspense, panic, imminent danger, or whatever you want to call it, up to the end. Now, the question is how will it do at the box office, and will it do enough ticket sales that they're going to adapt the sequel that the original author is currently writing ( All You Need is Kill )? Rumor has it that it is titled something like The Thin Bit ? Doug Liman did a tremendous job directing, the cast was enjoyable and believable, and the effects and creatures done very well. I hope they get a crack at making the sequel!

I get the impression it isn't doing well. I think everybody went to see the emo cancer teens movie this weekend. But it's a light summer for movies from this point on, so it can do well in the long haul, especially with the good word-of-mouth.
