Here's the teams that would have made it in the last 10 years.
2013: Steelers (8-8) Cardinals (10-6) 2012: Steelers (8-8) Bears (10-6) 2011: Titans (9-7) Bears (8-8) 2010: Chargers (9-7) Giants (10-6) 2009: Texans (9-7) Falcons (9-7) 2008: Patriots (11-5) Buccaneers (9-7) 2007: Browns (10-6) Vikings (8-8) 2006: Broncos (9-7) Packers (8-8) 2005: Chiefs (10-6) Vikings (9-7) 2004: Jaguars (9-7) Saints (8-8) Do you see any Super Bowl caliber teams here? The 11-5 Pats were led by Cassel that year. |

I feel like we were pretty good in 05. That was the year we slaughtered the Bengals in week 17, right?
Who am I kidding? We'd have been booted after the first round as per usual.. |

Is that the year we went 10-6 and needed Detroit to beat Pittsburgh in week 17 to get in? Vermeil's final season I believe? I was pretty disappointed that year. I felt like if we made it in we could have made somethin happen. I at least wanted Vermeil to get one more shot at it with us.

Why the hell would they expand just to let 8 or 9 win teams in? Does anyone think those teams are serious contenders? I mean, what is the point of that?

WC round would be 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5. Divisional would be 1 vs (lowest remaining seed), (next highest at home vs next lowest). They don't have to add an extra week of games, lol. |

I almost wonder if they should just go ahead and make it 8 teams. That's where it's going anyway. No byes, division winners get homefield first round. Just make that first weekend the March Madness of football. Games at 1/4/7/10 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
I'm not sure I like only one team having the bye. If you're going to make this thing a crapshoot, let's go all the way. It will definitely get more teams involved in the overall playoff race. The argument against expanding is you are probably going to slide the "drama" in the final week to a bunch of teams fighting for 7-9 to 9-7 records. The AFC has only had 6 teams with winning records each of the last two years. |
