Any of you done the genetic mapping?

I just sent in my packet for 23andme.com with the saliva/cheek cell sample for genetic mapping. I have several patients that have done it and turned me on to it.

It actually showed a propensity for periodontal disease and certain types of cancer and brain issues/diseases.

I think it is similar to what Angelina Jolie used perhaps. Anyhow, have any of you guys done this? Did it confirm where you thought you were from? History of familial disease? Markers for any diseases?

I can't wait to get mine back.

They usually have copies of government ledgers or records that they will send you.

I think I'm going to ask for it for Christmas. Err, winter holiday.

I had a paternal aunt that was into genealogy and a maternal uncle that's an archaeologist. I've got a pretty good idea of what my ancestry is.

He had substantial knowledge of one subset of my paternal ancestors, and a good general understanding of two of the other main subsets.

I'll take "Unintentional Euphemisms for Inbreeding" for $600.

Got a lot of 4th cousins emails. I would find out something then post it and someone new would find me and say we are related.

Didn't cost me a thing but time sorting through email and allowing strangers to see my DNA. Since I had no ticking timebombs in my DNA that some insurance company in the future could hold against me, I felt more comfortable releasing my DNA for research to others.
I can see it now...

Hey dad, I'm Sarah. My mom is ****s A Lot from Galveston, TX. She says you were number three of 30 one Friday night at A&M. When can we come see you?

I've done it and am tested to 67 markers on FTDNA. My grandfather is adopted and was using this to verify a paper genealogy we have worked up. It's interesting.... in my case it appears there are some undocumented adoptions in my family ancestors.
