Chiefs GM Carl Peterson says team is on track despite bad year
Chiefs GM Carl Peterson says team is on track despite bad year
The Associated PressPublished: December 12, 2007 KANSAS CITY, Mo.: Facing what could be his worst season in 19 years as president and general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs, Carl Peterson says neither he nor his head coach is in danger of losing his job. That will come as a disappointment to many angry fans and critics. The Chiefs have lost six in a row and looked horrible last weekend in a 41-7 loss to Denver. They haven't won a playoff game since the 1993 season and appear to be facing a huge rebuilding job, with massive needs on the offensive line and in the secondary especially. "I think I understand the fans' impatience and disappointment," said Peterson, who has ruled the Chiefs since 1989 and has two years left on a five-year contract. "I feel the same way. We're having a difficult season. We've had a lot of successful seasons, too, in my time here." The Chiefs (4-9) are coming off perhaps their worst on-the-field performance since 1988. They averaged less than 1 yard per carry against Denver, which has one of the league's worst run defenses. Herm Edwards, in his second season as Kansas City's head coach, said in a testy exchange with reporters during his Tuesday news conference that everyone should blame him and no one else for what's happened. "In our society, we all want to point the finger, to blame somebody," he said. "Blame me. OK? If you want to blame somebody, blame me, the head coach. You don't have to blame any more players. You don't have to blame the people in the organization." But Peterson, swarmed by reporters at the end of the news conference, invited everyone to hold him accountable. "And that's where they should put the blame because at the end of the day the buck stops here," Peterson said. "I certainly want to say that Herm is doing an excellent job. He's working very hard at it. We were in the playoffs last year. He's been in the playoffs four of the six years he's been a head football coach. I think he's the right guy. We don't have any plans to make any changes." Peterson also said he would be willing to step aside if he thought that would be best for the organization. "I evaluate myself every year," he said. "But I look at the whole body of work. And again — the ultimate responsibility is mine, but it's not just me. There are a lot of people who work very hard in this organization. And over the years we've had a lot of successes. "At the end of the year, like we always do, we'll sit down and evaluate where we are on the football side of it, the business side of it, all the aspects. Then we make our plans for 2008." A player purge is certain. Peterson also hinted there could be other changes in the organizational structure. "We're going to evaluate it all," he said. "There'll probably be some changes. There always is. This is the National Football League. Nothing stays static." Peterson said he's confident the Chiefs are on the right path. "We are a work in progress," he said. "I am very, very optimistic about the future. I think we've got the right head coach. He's never been afraid to play young players, develop young players, and that's what we're doing right now. We are getting younger and we are rebuilding." http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/...s-Peterson.php |

I used to hate teams like the Steelers, Cowboys, 49er's, Pats, etc because they won so much. I really find myself respecting those teams more and more. I pray the Chiefs are like that someday.....

I suspect Carl's self evaluation goes something like this:
Hmmmm...in 1989 I made 500K. In 1990 I made 800K. In 1995 I made 1.5 million.....in 2007 I made 9 million. Hmmm...looks pretty good to me. |

what we fell to realize is that no matter what Carl wins, due to the fact its all about the cash. When we as fans really stop going to games and buying the stuff then we as fans will be heard. But we are only few and they know it.

This is why it's the Hunt's fault we havent won the Super Bowl in a million years.

The thing of it is & the reason we suck is cus...
Since at leaste 2004 EVERYBODY knew, all the sports nuts, all the analist, all the fans knew, that Willy Roaf & Will Shields were going to retire sooner or later & that this great O-line was going to decay. Carl did nothing about it. He drafted late rounders, expect 6th & 7th rounders like Keven Sampson or Svitec to step up and become our O-line & they were gassly wrong about Wilbourn. Did he think think that those guys were going to be the power house O-line like Roaf & Shields? We are lucky to still have Brian Waters, but what happens if he goes down? They expected Kyle Turley who had just come off a two year back problem layoff. Kyle Turley had no buissness on this team this year what so ever. WTF & he thinks we Chiefs fans are frustraited? We aren't frustraited we are PISSED . Last edited by Rasputin; 12-13-2007 at 09:34 PM.. |
