Is Allen worth it?

Jared Allen’s place in NFL (financial) history
April 23rd, 2008 – 7:57 AM by Kevin Seifert

Based on some very preliminary research this morning, it appears that new Vikings DE Jared Allen is the NFL’s third-highest paid active player and the fourth-highest in league history.

If you use guaranteed money as a benchmark, then there are only two players whose contracts guarantee more than the $31,000,0069 in Allen’s deal. Both of them are quarterbacks: Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger, whose recent contract extension guarantees him $36 million, and Indianapolis’ Peyton Manning, who was guaranteed $34.5 million in 2004.

The NFL record, we believe, is the $37 million the Atlanta Falcons guaranteed QB Michael Vick in 2005.

http://ww3.startribune.com/vikingsblog/

He is now the highest paid defensive player in NFL history, according to them.

I was against the trade, this chaned my mind. That's WAY too much for anybody who isn't a guaranteed 3 time Defensive POY.

oh the humanity....its Carl's fault that Allen got in trouble...

and I'm doubly angry that had the audacity to get 3 first day picks for said alcoholic....really....i'm angry...

but when the Chiefs requested the same consideration, he cries like a baby and demands to be traded?

awesome...lets all blame Carl!

Allen made a fair deal with the team. It just goes to prove what an absolute ****tard Peterson is and how reasonable Allen was.

Carl was unable to think of a deal that was fair and protected the team in a worst case scenario. It isn't until 2010 that Allen will go over the 31 million mark. This year it will cost Minnesota 16.25M which is about 5 million less than what KC is going to pay its unproven #5 pick.

Yeah, I'm sure the #5 this year will count 21.25 million against the cap.

The bonus is guaranteed for injury only. It protects Minnesota in case Allen gets in trouble with the law again. Allen's signing bonus is $15.5 million. His base salaries are: $750,000 (2008), $7.75 million (2009), $6.38 million (2010), $8,979,438 (2011), $11,619,850 (2012), and $14,280,612 (2013).
From my understanding it protects nothing even if he gets in trouble with the law again.. That is why Vick got his money, guaranteed money is guaranteed no matter what..

A roster bonus is only paid if the player is on the roster at the time the roster bonus comes due.

If Allen gets into trouble before that bonus and gets cut, he never sees that 8 mil.
