Broncos camp

I went out to Dove Valley to watch the Broncos today.

For what it's worth, the defense looked a lot better than the offense.

Selvin Young (RB) showed up late. Marshall made the only amazing catch I saw (not that it's going to matter a hell of a lot when he's facing a four or eight game suspension).

Cutler looked awful for the most part. It looked like he decided where he was going to throw well before he was able to determine whether his receiver was going to be able to get anywhere near that spot. I understand the idea of timing a pass, but he let a few go that he never should have thrown.

Champ Bailey looked good, of course, and he got his INT. Foxworth got one as well.

Either the run game sucks at this point or the run defense is respectable. My guess is that the run game sucks.

I wouldn't knock the Faiders too hard if I were you, they have potential to get back to the competitive level before KC does. Both KC and Oakland have a huge question at QB, we'll see how both play out.
Hope for the remarkable is what year in and year out mediocrity will give you. Every Chief fan can understand the delusion.

I see fewer question marks in Faid land then I do in Denver and KC.

Again, with the injury, legal and off-field issues notwithstanding, losing Travis Henry who accounted for a good chunk of last season's run game despite missing 4 games, only starting 7 and limited availability in others = net downgrade.

Losing Jason Elam = downgrade.

Losing Tom Nalen and replacing him with Casey Wiegmann and losing Matt Lepsis and replacing him with a rookie (Clady) = downgrades.

On top of all that John Lynch is another year older and it looks like Paymah will have some legal issues to deal with.

For the most part these are all accurate comments. I don't think we make the playoffs this year. San Diego will be the lone representative from the AFC West. I will say that losing Henry and Walker may be addition by subtraction. Darrell Jackson will have a fine season as a number 2 WR, but he doesn't put the fear into opposing defenses like Javon did. Young will be fine filling in for Henry, as we all know, Denver has some success with just about anybody back there. Concerning Javon and Henry, both seemed to have been major distractions and Mike never should have brought them in to begin with. This is why I'm so critical of him as a GM. Losing Jason is also large, how many games did we win by a last second field goal? I doubt the new kicker will be nearly as clutch. Nalen is back, don't know how the injury will affect him. Finally, I actually think Clady will be an upgrade over Lepsis. Lepsis was god awful last year and although it is really too early to tell, Clady has played very well in camp. He has completely neutralized Elvis, who had 12 sacks last season. Not too shabby.

You may be right, only the season will tell. It's nice to have at least a couple of you old school Planeteers to run a little meaningless preseason game with. Most of these newbs just aren't in the same league.

We feel ya'.

Hopefully both KC and Denber don't fall face first into the suck so early our games become irrelevant...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Another shitty prospect to continue Denver's shitty drafting, and another shitty year with no legit. prospects in 2009. That team is a trainwreck.
I think you are giving the Raiders way too much credit. You think they'll have that dramatic of a turn around in one offseason. You can't just overpay for any free agent on the market and expect them to be a team overnight, see Denver and Washington.

Abandoning the playoff ship in preseason? How long have you been a Bronco?

Young isn't filling in for Henry. Torrain and Young will platoon unless Shanny come up with plan C. Which he very well may.

Don't let these perennial losers erode your faith, the playoffs are always in reach unless we are mathematically eliminated.

I like the direction KC is headed. I'd be encouraged if I were you. I'd be even more encouraged if Herm Dungy got hit by a bus next year.

As far as Young/Henry. I had both on my fantasy team last year so I watched closely. They pretty much split time when they were healthy and when Henry was out Selvin got more of the load. But then Selvin got injured as well and no one on the team has proven they can carry the load, especially over the length of a season.

Nalen/Wiegmann.. I'm just going by the donks nfl.com depth chart. I like how you completely ignored the Lepsis/Clady exchange.

Personal opinion - I'm a Russell believer. Although that D-line still needs work.

Didn't you learn from your blind hope last offseason? Jump on board -- the realism train is quite pleasant. Being a foolish homer won't help the team win, but it'll certainly be harder to swallow when they continue to disappoint.

WRs aren't classified as starters, they are classified by rank. Walker was the 1 WR to start the year, by the end of the year he had been replaced at 1 WR by Marshall.

Agreed. It looks like Torrain and Young will platoon and who knows who else Shanny throws in there. Denver's running game isn't decided by the RB but by the effectiveness of the OL.

Nalen/Wiegmann.. I'm just going by the donks nfl.com depth chart. I like how you completely ignored the Lepsis/Clady exchange.

Sorry, didn't mean to ignore your last point. I'm excited to see what Clady can do. Nobody can say if he will sink or swim until the real bullets start to fly.

Walker better than Marshall? Your ignorance is already showing. Samie Parker is a 5th option that may never see the field.

For you sake I hope you're right about Samie. If he becomes the #2 that will suck for you guys. Although, he is a good downfield threat if ShannaRat uses him correctly.

Walker was really good in Denver until his knee went out the second time. After that he was really a non-factor.

If Marshall can improve any from last season that will make him one of the best in the league. I wish he was the Chiefs #2 WR.

LOL. Why do you question that? I've been a bronco fan since 1987. I'm not abandoning the playoff ship per se, I'm being realistic based off of how poorly we played the previous year along with what we've added/lost in the offseason. Plus, some other teams out there are damn solid. If we played in the NFC, we would have a shot. I think we'll have a much improved team in many areas. We will have a healthy and improved O line with the infusion of Clady and Return of Nalen and Hamilton. Young is every bit the back Henry ever was, with less distractions. I really like the kid and wouldn't be surprised if he goes over 1500. The passing game will be solid, we won't miss Walker as much as people think, outside of the 1st couple of weeks, he was pretty worthless. Cutler's improved health will help alone. The big question is on D, can these guys actually stay healthy and get to the opposing QB? I don't know if the can.
