Chiefs' D stats since Gun's return

Cumulatively, since 2004 only the Detroit Lions have given up more yards.

Anyone who claims Gun is competent is a moron.

Probably?

It's all but guaranteed, IMO.

Regardless of whether Carl is fired this offseason, or is allowed to have his contract run out, the next GM of the Chiefs will be Bill Kuharich, and very likely the next President will be Denny Thum.

Which means, Herm gets several more years, at least.

I, for one, am looking forward to the incessant bitching for the next several years around this place. Very entertaining.

It is also largely believed that it was Gun who fell in love with Junior Siavii. Since that time, he's also receiver 9 first day picks in 5 years. And given veterans like Napoleon Harris and Donnie Edwards.

And if you want to talk about schematics, it is largely on the D-coordinator to teach tackling. Gun held himself directly accountable for LBs and he has been worse than the previous guy, Don Blackmon. I can't even count on two hands the number of times we've given up a big play on a jailbreak blitz, which reeks of Gunther Cunningham. I can't count the number of times we've seen our safeties and LBs crash in recklessly on the run play and overpursue or get sucked up, which is also the mark of a Gunther Cunningham defense.

It's not hard to find reasons to blame Gun. He's had every excuse in the book but has never once held himself accountable for his defense.
you are missing the point.....Interesting that Hermroids will argue points like this to excuse Herm...I am not trying to excuse Gun, I am just saying to the Herm lovers, if you make excuses for Herm you have to make them for Gun. Herm lovers can't have it both ways. I was merely pointing out that people can/will make excuses. In my mind there is no excuse for Herm, Gun, DL Coach, OL Coach............kick them all the hell out.

Actually, I do. If you are going to rebuild, you need to totally flush everything out of the front office, and rebuild it with guys who have a passion for winning, not just making $.

Holy crap, if that happens, we are truly hopeless and morally bankrupt for buying into that.

That will ensure we will NEVER see an AFC Championship game or a Superbowl, but the "true fans" will rejoice as we wallow in the 7-9 to 9-7 every year...

KCJ,

Greg Robinson had some great years statistically at Denver also, and won a couple of Super Bowls. Does that mean he should have never been fired after 2003?

By the way, Gun's 2004 defense was worse than Grob's 2003 unit with the same players.

Herm and Gun were talking each other up when Herm was hired in 2006, and look at this shit we've been given.

Found this blurb on Kuharich:

"Saints' personnel director Bill Kuharich has his own philosophy when it comes to building football teams, and he is sticking with it even when he is criticized for it. It led him to select Mike Ditka as his head coach and take Colorado guard Chris Naeole with the tenth pick in the 1997 draft."

What a great time to start this thread. Bill Parcells would not be able to field a better D when his best pass rusher had been traded away, he only has . one decent linbacker, and 2 rookie corners. Add in the fact that the best linebacker, and both starting corners are out with injuries and guys signed off the street are getting significant playing time, and I think our D is doing pretty good. Did you forget that they are leading the league in takeaways? I personally am excited about our D. I believe that next season our D will dominate. We need only to add a pass rusher and a couple of linebackers and we could field a top 5 defense. Right now, Gun is being asked to make chicken salad out of chicken shit.

With all due respect, Chan Gailey has made a gourmet chicken salad out of chicken shit.

Gun's had 5 years to build this. He's had 9 first-day picks. A blank check in 2004 to get some pricey free agents in the mix. And oh, by the way, when he took over for the LBs, they got WORSE--and that includes DJ.

The excuses are over. Good coaches don't need elite players at every position to build a defense. They build a defense to their plyaers' strengths. I have never in 5 years seen Gun do anything innovative outside of an occasional jailbreak blitz. We can do a lot better. Monte Kiffin doesn't have many pro bowlers, but that defense is arguably the best in the league.

Agreed, except the blank check was for 2005. In 2004, Gun and Carl were all cocky, bragging that Gun would take Robinson's same players and make a really good defense out of it. Turns out it didn't quite work that way -- it was WORSE Grob's defense.

Just heard on the radio that our stat :

6 sacks through 10 games

is the worst of any team in 26 years.

To me Gunther with Kansas City is the same situation as Charlie Weis with Notre Dame.

Great guys, and I personally like them. But they absolutely MUST GO !

*************

This terrible injury situation might, and I say might, have worked out as an excuse for Gun if we didn't have the last few years as well as the beginning of the season to evaluate him on. Unfortunately for Gun, we do have all that "tape to watch" and it speaks for itself. It's past due for him to leave.
