A CB in the 1st or 2nd?

Stop one second with the gut reaction of "the secondary is fine, Flowers and Carr are good CB's and Arenas is a good nickle back." Maybe, maybe not.

The reason I'm asking is that last year after the Jets lost in the playoffs, Tannenbaum asked Ryan what he thought the team needed the most to continue to be competitive, and Rex said athletic, physical corners. He said to beat the Manning's, Rothlisberger's, Rivers' and Brady's you needed tough physical corners. Even though they had Revis, a decent pass D, and a struggling pass rush they brought in Cromartie and used a 1st round pick on Wilson.

Even though Flowers is solid, and Carr has his moments, should KC entertain using an early draft pick on a physical CB?

Coulda, shoulda, woulda.

In Romeo's deal, that's a two down position. The five tech isn't a "game changer" in a 3-4 anyway. It's a critical position as there aren't a lot of guys capable of effectively playing it, but it's not a highlight film type of position.

The Chiefs didn't have a single guy on the roster that was ideal for that position when Pioli and Haley showed up in 2009. Jackson was the best guy in the draft of potentially being that guy. Sure it was a reach, but there were logical reasons behind the pick. He wasn't going to last past the 15th pick or so anyway as there were a lot of defenses being converted to the 3-4 that year. It was a hot position and Jackson's draft value was driven up by the need at the time. There wasn't a lot of choices at that position in the free agent market either if I remember correctly.

It's why they also took Maghee in the third. The roster was devoid and they really didn't have an idea if Dorsey was going to be able to convert to that slot or not.

Curry would have been a better pick, but everyone bitched about him not being an "impact" player (no one seems to be able to look past the glory numbers of sacks or interceptions around here). He'd look pretty good in a Chiefs uniform at LOLB though about now and people wouldn't have been whining about needing a replacement for Vrabel.

Raji as well.

Hell, I thought that they should have traded down and took Mack.

However, while it was a surprise to a lot of people, it wasn't that far of a reach at the time considering the Chiefs roster.

Yes, it was. And that point has been further exacerbated by the fact that Jackson was beat out by a guy that last played for the Las Vegas Locos of the UFL and Magee was traded away.

The bottom line is that Pioli completely ****ed up the 2009 and his lack of vision is why the Chiefs were bounced quickly and decisively from the 2010 playoffs.

Furthermore, he's paid $5 million dollars per year to make the correct decisions for this team, so his ****ups should not be taken lightly.
