Maybe AJ, like CP, got too much credit for the work of Marty.

Still think Marty is one of the best coaches in the history of game in terms of coaching players to overachieve.

This. It's an awfully big coincidence that both Carl and AJ had a drastic drop off in drafting quality after Marty left.

I don't know about AJ Smith, but Carl got a lot of credit for the Chiefs improvement, when in fact, much of the foundation for that turnaround for the Chiefs was laid before Carl and Marty.

Marty brought discipline and toughness that this team lacked, and the one good pick that Carl made brought an energy and enthusiasm that this team lacked.

But beyond DT, Will Shields and Tony Gonzalez, Carl drafted crap for the better part of 20 years.

That could be said about today's team too.

How dare anyone say that with Carl classics like Jrezelle Jenkins, Junior Siavii, Rashaan Shehee, and the DB no-INT-in-NFL from Oklahoma whose name I'm mercifully drawing a blank on.

Yeah but towards the end here he was reduced to "Rah Rah" and repeating "One play at a time" at the top of his lungs. He had jumped the shark here.
