Soooooooooo... why is Jon McGraw not a Chief, again?

We let his one-year contract expire after the season.

He is a good backup, knows the system, contributes on special teams, and is popular in the locker room. As antiquated as the term is now, he is definitely a "Right 53" player.

You will not find another backup on the market right now who started as many games as he did last season.

And bringing him on bolsters our safety depth, and prevents us from having to rush Menzie into action if he's not ready.

Berry, Lewis, Elam, Menzie, McGraw

That is a safety depth chart with great starting talent and great depth, along with the rest of this team.

We have one roster spot open, let's make this happen.

again they had like 20 secondary guys at camp

we were down the McGraw/Sabby road last season when our safeties went down with injuries. Why not roll the dice and try a young unknown guy that maybe at least...err definitely faster than McGraw on the field. I'd rather watch a 23/24 year old rookie with growing pains step in if a starter gets hurt than some 30 year old slow broke dick with his own head/concussion/injury problems as a replacement.

that's not McGraw
Either way he sucks at tackling, doesn't really matter.

This guy is not a Chief anymore so why are we even wasting time talking about him?

You wanna know how bad he was at tackling?

11 missed tackles in 495 snaps last season.

That's 1 missed tackle every 45 snaps.

If he had played as many snaps as Eric Berry did in 2010, he would have missed 24 tackles.

That is god ****ing awful.

I am so glad this piece of shit is off our roster.

he's a solid backup, hes good on special teams too. I'd take him back for the vet min, unless that dude Menzie from alabama tears it up

I'm not saying he's a great player. But that's your #3 or #4 safety right there.
Stats don't track blown coverages or missed tackles... both of which McGraw collected like they were beanie babies in the 90's.

I like him as an STer, but I never want to see him on defense again.

Good riddance.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

The mention of maslowski has me asking - doesn't it seem like the crappy players people love because of their "effort" are always white? Boomer Grigsby. Etc

If McGraw were black would anyone be mad at his not being held on as a special teams player?

Because the Chiefs are holding out for William Bartee's triumphant return!

Why is this crazy?

Mike Brown started 16 games in 2009 and wasn't brought back.

The only real benefit to McGraw is he knew the scheme. He's limited, and on a defense with a ton of great athletes, he was the weakness every time.
