After living through Glenn Dorsey & Tyson Jackson, I'm not really expecting much year 1. Anything we get I'll consider gravy. Just makes me glad we have Toribio this year. |

He was pushed around just like he was in college by AZ second team. Their first team is pretty bad so the second team is not that far off of the college competition that pushed him around. This guy reminds me of another workout warrior named Tank Tyler. Have you guys heard of him?

Why didn't he produce then? He would of been a top 5 pick easily if he produced against college competition. This guy is Tank Tyler all over. Read any combine con about him and it's he plays small and isn't that productive. I called Tank Tyler correctly now I'm calling this guy.

Just FYI, on the Chiefs first sack it was Poe who got the push up the middle taking away the pocket. Poe also was four yards past the line of scrimmage when he tipped the pass later in the second. He had his hands on the running back three times at the line of scrimmage twice impeding the backs progress. Watch the game people. He did get pancaked some while lunging. Gotta work on that technique.

Dontari Poe may be Chiefs’ third-best nose tackle Posted by Michael David Smith on August 14, 2012, 8:10 AM EDT Dontari Poe, Anthony Pleasant AP When a team takes a player with the 11th pick in the NFL draft, that team is usually hoping that player can step in and start immediately. But the Chiefs selected nose tackle Dontari Poe with the 11th pick in this year’s draft, and not only is Poe not currently a starter, he may not even be second string. The Kansas City Star reports that the real competition at nose tackle in Chiefs camp is between Anthony Toribio, who’s currently the starter, and Jerrell Powe, a 2011 sixth-round pick who played in only one game as a rookie but has looked good in camp and recorded a sack in the preseason opener. When Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel discussed his three nose tackles’ performances in the preseason game against the Cardinals, the best he could say for Poe is that his effort is good. But in the NFL, there are no points for effort, and when discussing actual production from the nose tackle position, it was Toribio and Powe whom Crennel mentioned. “Toribio made some plays, which we liked,” Crennel said. “The young Poe, he’s still learning, and he gave good effort. He’s trying to learn to do the things the way we want them. He’s not there yet. And P-O-W-E . . . he got in there, he made a play. He’s improved from where he was last year. . . . It’s not a bad thing to have a couple or three guys to play the position, if they can do it.” Crennel said before the preseason game that Poe needs a lot of work, and Poe’s first live action against another team confirmed that. Although Poe was perhaps the most impressive athlete at the Scouting Combine, he has a long way to go before he’s an impressive player on the field.

Do you guys remember how Haloti Ngata looked in his first preseason game ever?
I just went to see the NFL 2006 pre season stats and assuming Ngata played in all 4 games, he only had one assisted tackle in the third preseason game and one tackle in the fourth game. I know stats don't tell the whole story with those nose tackles but I just feel like Ngata, whom is that player we hope Poe can become, might not have been really better in his first preseason game ever. Toribio and Powe both impressed. Don't care where they were drafted. If they continue the solid play, this D will be lethal. Poe can still contribute in sub packages while "learning the ropes".

S and ofI imagine a lot is because they have to play 2-gap. That requires a ton of twcnique but you also have a steep learning curve in terms of diagnosing the blocking scheme. I don't believe many college programs play effective two gap but maybe I'm wrong. The other isaueissue is you have big mammoth
