Since we're starting over (again), how are we build for a 4-3?

It's a possibility since we're going to have a new GM/Coach/DC. How do our current pieces fit in a 4-3.

D-Line:
Tamba would probably move back to DE
Poe would be one DT
Do we now consider bringing Dorsey back?
Do Tyson Jackson, Allen Bailey, or Jerrelle Powe work in a 4-3?

Linebackers:
Houston and Johnson are locks and should do fine. Linebacker would be more of a need.

Secondary shouldn't change. We still need a starting corner and probably a starting safety.

DL: Hali-Poe-Dorsey-Jackson(?)
LB: Houston-Johnson-????
DB: Flowers, Berry, ?????,???? (Lewis is too brittle)

Both Jackson and Dorsey would look better in one gap.

Maybe. Dorsey is a bust. Can't play the 3-tech on subs and provide a pass rush, which is the same technique he'd play in a 1-gap primarily.

Tyson has finally shown some flashes but it would require restructuring his contract extensively to keep him. I wouldn't be opposed to it if we can reduce his contract significantly (17M next year).

I can't believe we're even talking about this. The really important pieces of a 3-4 are finally in place (a true NT, two bookend OLB pass rush threats) and people want to switch?

Hali is a painfully average 4-3 end.

This defense is a LOT closer to being an elite unit if you stick to the 3-4 and make it more of a one gap, attacking style. Poe, Powe-hell, even Bailey are going to look a LOT better in that style of play. Jackson may well, too.

You're really just short a #2 corner, an ILB, and perhaps a FS if Lewis is broken and this season is not just an aberration. That's do-able in ONE offseason.

If you switch to a 4-3 you're basically starting over. You negate Hali and Houston's best attributes, you will need an OLB, an MLB (as Johnson is better suited at OLB in a 4-3, IMO), and at least one DE while taking Hali from a position of playmaker to average. And you still need a #2 corner and possibly a FS. Or, just shy of half a starting defense.

Del Rio was a scab player during the NFL strike in 82. He assaulted Otis Taylor who worked for the Chiefs front office at the time and that story always comes up whenever anybody mentions Del Rio's name.

Exactly, i dont want a damn 4-3 anyway.

Its not as versatile and would only prolong the amount of time it takes to get them playing efficiently.

JUST SAY NO TO 4-3
