I like the improvements, and will enjoy watching this team, but I am not too much more excited about Alex Smith than the day they traded for him. Is he an improvement? Hell yes, a huge improvement over the worst I recall ever seeing, but he is no Kolin Kaepernick, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers etc.

Geno won today, as a rookie.

Alex Smith less than 200 yards passing.

Fasano can't catch shit.

Return game sucked

And we couldn't even block a punt.

Against a 2-14 team QB with a broken thumb on his throwing hand.

watched the nyg dall game and if the line can dominate it is over

on offense without JC the offense is useless

Maybe so that when we actually have to, we have experience doing so? Maybe so that we can see that Fasano is not the type of guy that can make fingertip grabs?

That answer is too practical. Something more esoteric, please.

Because your entire game plan up until that point has drawn Jacksonville's defense up closer to the line of scrimmage, and the running and short passing game is now too well defended to be effective.

The idea that the coaching staff stopped caring about getting first downs because of a 26 point lead is completely ridiculous. Jacksonville adjusted they way they defended based on what we had done in the first half. The natural response from Smith and play-calling should have been to start testing the edges deep where the CBs no longer had safety help.

It's one gawdamn game against the worst team in the League. I'm happy we won the game we were supposed to win. The D looked phenomenal against a crap OL and a crap QB. Good, I'd be worried if they didn't. The Offense looked bad in the 2nd half. That concerns me a bit, but I'm sure we can improve on that. Other than that, I'm happy we won, but I'm not doing backflips either. The D, by far, was the most encouraging part of yesterday's game.

All this game means so far is that we're 1-0 and beat a team we were supposed to. It was impressive, but its not even a trend yet.

The thing is we beat the Jags the way a good team is supposed to beat the Jags. That's the encouraging part. Last 2 years we probably win by 1-3 points.

I keep seeing this idea pop up here and there on the forum. Mainly from Alex Smith boobs. Saying that we didn't need to throw the ball more than we did. But that's just silly. You play 100% the entire time. You don't pull back the reigns just because you have what you think is a decent lead. Peyton didn't have to score 7 TDs on Thursday to get the win.

Alex is what he is an accurate short passer with a good head on his shoulders. Will he make some long distance throws, sure but he is going to be off the mark a lot. The difference between him and Kaepernick is day and night. Anybody that watched the 9er game can clearly see that.
