John Mayer - Freak Stalker, Got Serious Game or Hung like a Grizzly?

I mean, wtf?

Is this guy a serial stalker of hot, famous chicks?

I'm still a little blown away that he was apparently dating Taylor Swift.

How does a guy that's apparently tried to nail any chick who's been on this months cover of National Enquirer land a chick like Taylor Swift. And then there is celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jennifer Anniston, Minka Kelly, Jessica Simpson, and now Katy Perry. Is there no one safe from this scrawny douche?

Seriously though...what gives?

I don't get it.

I don't really think of Grohl as being among the day's eminent guitarists. Prince may be a generational thing, or something - maybe I am too young to be into him.

It's a bit like "who's the best QB ever" because some are great technical players, some are great composers or just have a way with their phrasing.

If we are talking about greatest living players:
clapton obviously.
mayer
jack white
the edge
jonny greenwood
mike mccready
johnny marr
joe bonamassa
jonny lang

And these are only guys from genres and acts that I appreciate, I'm sure there are plenty of others who play in the metal world who are just as set apart from their peers, but don't play in a style that does anything for me.

Honestly, the only thing I know about him is his name and his rep.

His name just screamed out technical guitarsturbator and I never sought him out.

I'm sure it's my loss.

And again, 5 names, top of head, 3am, insomnia.

This is just one of the more mainstream favorite examples of Prince soloing. There's a reason he bats cleanup.

Takes something special to tackle something that EVERYONE already knows and adores and pump it out so everyone says 'Oh, it could be THAT good?'

He definitely lacks the background and soul for true blues though. I agree with you. As a guitarist, he is top shelf. No doubt, regardless of your thoughts on his music. Besides, he's pulling the trim. Isn't that what this is about?
People bash eachothers opinions and tastes nonstop around here. I was just trying to fill a void that was gonna get filled sooner or later anyway. I don't really hate the dude. Good guitarist. Not my cup of tea when it comes to songwriting.

That would be a fairly close assessment. I appreciate his talent but his music isn’t necessarily my thing, even in my Metal phase.

No biggy just a friendly ribbing, but I do think any conversation about top guitarists should include his name.

Yngwie is one of those people who's more appreciated in other parts of the world, I think. I don't know if anyone can play faster than him for sure. Technical skill, he would rank right up there.

I can't believe I forgot to mention Eric Johnson, either, but he should be on the "greatest living" list.

The only 'technical' guitarist I REALLY enjoy is Adrian Legg, and he creates more a folksy river of sound than a screeching wall.

Steve Via would make him work for the title.

I kind of feel that way with respect to Yngwie. Speed impresses other musicians but the general public just wants to hear nice phrasing.

Here’s an off the wall one for you. He gets over looked quite a bit I think because of the genre he mostly played but my Dad helped me grow an appreciation for Roy Clark.

OK - on the second clip, who names the tune and how quick into the clip [not reading the title]?
