Jay Cutler re-signs with the Bears

Jay Cutler receives 7-year deal

Jay Cutler will get a chance to grow in coach Marc Trestman's offense.

Set to become an unrestricted free agent, Cutler signed a seven-year contract with the Chicago Bears on Thursday, general manager Phil Emery announced.

"He's a demonstrated winner with the Chicago Bears. He can be a key player in terms of being the reason you win," Emery said.

Emery also said Cutler had his best season in 2013 not only because of stats but due to "leadership, his improvement, his display of toughness."

Cutler, who has played his last five seasons with the Bears after starting his career in Denver, recently said he wanted to stay in Chicago.

If Cutler didn't sign a new contract there was talk that the Bears could place the franchise tag on him.

Cutler also received full support from Trestman, who was in his first season as Bears coach. After Josh McCown played well while Cutler was sidelined with an ankle injury, Trestman went back to a healthy Cutler late in the season.

I'd be absolutely pissed if I was a Chicago Bears fan. Cutler will never win you a Superbowl, ever, he's just like Phillip Rivers where he's wildly inconsistent and his ego/arrogance is what has always been his downfall. He hasn't done anything throughout his career except show an ability to throw the ball downfield. He's a waste, the smartest thing Denver ever did was move on and trade him, Chicago isn't that smart.

What percentage of NFL QBs are clear upgrades over Cutler? What percentage of those guys are available?

The correct answer is - NONE

A quarterback who can beat the tightest coverage out there with a laserbeam is worth atleast most of what you pay for him these days.

JPB is forgetting that if not for his turd defense, Cutler is playing this weekend, not the Packers... yep, i'm defending Jay Cutler... never thought i'd see the day, but the truth is the truth.

Yeah, it's not really an endorsement for Cutler. It's just recognizing that there are more worse QBs out there than better ones.

The Bears signed him to what amounts to a 3 year contract. I'm sure they would have preferred to sign Drew Brees, but their choices were more like Kolb Flynn McCown and Cassel.

McCown says he's ready to retire back to his family, but Chicago would be very wise to pony up for that guy, he's proven his worth x three.

And his excuse of "the family is in x and i'm in Chicago" just doesn't jibe with me at ALL... you're a multimillionaire, set your kids up in a nice school and play ball.

In two or three years your kids can go back to their hometown friends after you've completely secured their future.

Same here. But on this site all you need is a big arm to be coveted. 7 years of bad luck coming in Chicago.
