That sucks, man. The freakin' surgery cost $40k (with two nights in the hospital). I'd never been a pain killer guy but during those nights, I was hitting the morphine button every 5 minutes.
My wife was pregnant and having her baby shower so a good friend picked me up at the hospital when I was ready to be released. He said I looked like a ghost and because I was so hopped up on morphine every 5 minutes for the previous 48 hours, I felt like I was in a dream. It sucked. |

There is a new surgery that is very effective for apnea. They actually cut loose your jaw and reposition your bottom teeth forward. however, it is a major, major surgery and most insurance companies will not pay for it yet, so I guess I am stuck with the machine for now.

Does sleep apnea mainly happen for back sleepers? I sleep on my stomach. From what I understand, it may be more prone to back sleepers (?) becacuse their jowels and neck fat start to clog the airway a little bit when you sleep on your back.
I couldn't ever imagine being able to sleep with a mask, since I sleep on my stomach. My face is like straight against the pillow. I have not been able to sleep on my back one time in my entire life.

Doc wanted to put me on it, I said no, and have never looked back...I know some friends that had to have it, and it has helped them. I guess it's the mask thing for me anyway. (shudder) I wouldn't be able to sleep with that ****ing thing on, just me.

Ditto the kick in the nuts. Additionally for the vicious circle of exercise and tiredness. That is my boat. I am not THAT fat. 5'8" 185 lbs sounds bad, but lifted in the army and fighting weight is 165, thus 20 over...not obese.
Sure the smoking and drinking (fairly heavy) don't help. To Dane...WHOLLY CRAP. I think I'd rather be able to take a nap in the afternoon. WOW. You sure went down a rabbit hole!! It sounds like insurance will cover some. The wife has some good S*(^T. I will have her look into it. I will PM Tooge. He isn't to far away. I guess, over the years I have lost my GUMSHIN. I would like it back. I figured it was age. But when I did get a chance a few days ago to nap at the office and couldn't, alarm bells went off. A side note, and a possible other thread, who here sleeps with their wife? Or doesn't because of snoring? |

I was this -][- close to moving into my son's room after he left for college because of my snoring. I was starting to be afraid my wife would stab me during the night. She is a very sound sleeper, thankfully, but I go to bed before she does so it makes it hard for her to get to sleep if I am snoring away. The mask saved me there.

Me, too but I tend to sleep on my side, which is what the doctors recommend.
Now that I'm used to it, I don't find the mask to be a hindrance whatsoever but just like with any changes, it takes a little time to get used to the feeling. Also, my Phillips sends data every night, which I can log in and check, and I haven't had an apnea event since I started last October. |

I get my sleep study done in November. I set the appointment up in May. It pisses me off that it takes so long to get in. I am sick of being tired and waking up with my throat feeling swollen due to snoring. I'm also not a fan of having heart palpitations... I've heard heart palpitations can be a result of sleep apnea.

First off, thanks for starting this thread Holladay.
I know I'm fed up with it. I'm tired all damn day. After I get up in the morning and have a cup or two of coffee a lot of the time I'll fall back asleep during or right after the coffee. And feel worn the **** out all day. After reading this thread it sounds like the first thing I need to do is drop some weight. I'm 5'9 and about 195 lbs. which is about 25 lbs. over where I should be. I've put that extra weight on this last year which is about how long this has gotten to be a problem for me. I'm going to see my Dr. next month but in the mean time I'm going to start riding my bike every day and watch what I eat.
